Know their names for they are now part of history: Army Pfc. Antonio Cadiente, Airman Second Class Gener Laguindan, Navy Petty Officer 3 Edgardo Rodriguez and Police Officer 1 Danilo Maalab. The four honor guards stood upright in military fashion on a moving flatbed truck under the rain for eight straight hours without sitting, eating or relieving themselves as they accompanied former President Cory Aquino’s remains while her cortege journeyed from the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros to the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque yesterday, reports philstar.com.
According to The Philippine Star: “They were handpicked from the among the best of our honor guards,” said Marine Col. Lt. Edgard Arevalo, spokesman for the Philippine Navy. The honor guards are really expected to stand in attention for hours without moving. “It’s part of their training,” said Arevalo. “We call it discipline. ”
