House Bill 5466 by Rep. Cynthia Villar proposes to make October 20 officially National Thank You Day in the Philippines to celebrate the bayanihan spirit, according to a report on gmanews.tv
"Filipinos are renowned as a people of warm hospitality and respectful of age-old values. This is fostered heavily by our bayanihan spirit," says Villar.
If the bill is passed, October 20 will be a "celebration of the Filipino bayanihan spirit of according respect for the elders, warm hospitality and distinctive courtesy, and a commitment that the Philippines takes pride in its age-old respectful values."
According to Villar, this is not just a marketing promotional scheme but a concept that should be ingrained in Philippine culture.
Our question: If this bill gets passed, does this mean everyone will be legally obligated to say "thank you" at the end of every sentence on Oct. 20? (Thanks, but no thanks.)
