Avant-garde fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London apartment today (February 11 in London), just days after his mother's death, reports The New York Times. McQueen allegedly committed suicide according to Daily Mail and reportedly found hanged according to Sky News.

No word yet from his family or representatives except for this issued statement: "At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family," reports CNN.

According to the London Metropolitan Police, "The death was not being treated as suspicious."

His Twitter account has been deleted but his last few tweets "[might have offered] insight into what he was going through," reports New York Magazine. "Thought to have been extremely distraught" with the death of his mother, McQueen tweeted, "i'm letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx… but life must go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

On February 7, he tweeted, "HELLS ANGLES & PROLIFIC DEAMONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

In 2007, he also suffered a huge blow with the suicide of the stylist who discovered him, Isabella Bow.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour said, "We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen's influence was astonishing – from street style, to music culture and the world's museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss," reports New York Magazine.

Victoria Beckham, one of McQueen's celebrity customers, said, "McQueen was a master of fashion, creative genius and an inspiration. Today the fashion industry has lost a true great. An icon of all time. He made all he touched beautiful and will be desperately missed," reports Daily Mail.

Designer to Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rihanna, McQueen was known for pushing the limit with animal bones in his clothes, models made to look like mental ward patients and his "Highland Rape" collection showing brutalized women, among others. He was also commercially successful for his "impeccably shaped suits."

Supposed to be shown at New York Fashion Week today, his McQ line show has been cancelled, reports Daily Mail. His death comes just a week before the London Fashion Week.
