Filipino international pop singer Charice Pempengco, 18, is officially joining the American TV hit show Glee's second season. Charice Tweeted on June 22: "It's official. I'm on Glee (next season) but story behind it. When [the] rumor came out, it wasn't true...but then after that, I tried to audition. And i made it!!! Let's Party!!!!"
"Well, it’s true now!" reports Entertainment Weekly. "Sources confirm to me exclusively that the international pop star is signed, sealed, and delivered to recur next season as a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get Rachel (Lea Michele) contemplating murder," says EW columnist Michael Ausiello. In May, The Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted Charice's local manager Grace Mendoza to have said that Charice would be joining Glee, but Charice denied it at the time.
The international teen sensation rose to fame when comedienne/talk show host Ellen de Generes stumbled upon a Youtube video of Charice singing on the Korean talent competition Star King in 2007, and flew her to the US to guest on Ellen. Another guesting on Oprah followed, where host Oprah Winfrey called her "the most talented girl in the world" and took a special interest in Charice's career. Oprah endorsed her to songwriter and producer David Foster, who has launched the careers of Celine Dion, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé. This year, her debut album "Charice" is No.8 on the Billboard Charts. Charice has been selected to sing the Philippine national anthem at President-elect Noynoy Aquino III's inauguration on June 30.
