The report noted that Spiral "was damaged by the storm surge at the height of typhoon ’Pedring’ on September 27, 2011." Spiral was flooded after a portion of Manila Bay’s seawall collapsed.

Guests of five-star hotel The Sofitel Philippine on Roxas Boulevard, Manila, had to be evacuated this afternoon, September 27, as flood waters began to seep into the lobby, reports ABS-CBN News. According to Metro Manila Development Authority General Manager Corazon Jimenez, the water was knee-high in the hotel’s buffet restaurant Spiral, and waist-deep in some parts of the lobby.
