In the 2012 edition of the U.S.-based magazine Travel + Leisure’s "World’s Best Awards," Boracay is ranked No. 1 in its Top 10 list of the "World’s Best Islands."

InterAksyon.com, citing Caticlan Jetty port administrator Niven Maquirang’s statement, reports that the number of Boracay tourists "has already exceeded the 700,000 mark starting from the month of January up to June this year, up by 41 percent compared for the same period in year 2011."

On April 30, 2012, CNN’s travel site, CNNGo, posted a list of the Philippines’ best beaches and islands.

ABS-CBNNews.com—citing an interview done by Wilson Lee Flores and published in The Philippine Star on Sunday, February 12—reports that former Ilocos Sur Rep. Ronald Singson is opening the 47-room The District Hotel, as well as a bar, in Boracay. The report noted: "(Singson) described the beachfront District in Boracay’s Station 2 as a ’very high-end boutique hotel’ but with ’middle-range’ room rates."

Boracay was ranked second in TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice roster for the "Best Beaches in the World" for 2011. Based on user reviews, TripAdvisor picked 25 spots all over the world that boast of great beaches.

Travel + Leisure has released its annual list of 500 of the best hotels in the world and three Philippine hotels are cited: The Peninsula Manila, Makati Shangri-La Manila, and Discovery Shores Boracay. The entries in the annual roster are determined by Travel + Leisure readers.

Interaksyon.com reports that Boracay’s Puka Beach—which is "less developed" than the resort island’s famouse White Beach—made it to CNN’s listing of the "World’s 50 Best Beaches" on its travel site, CNNGo. The site ranked Puka Beach No. 41.
