Marching bands take the spotlight at this one-day event by the CCP

They have their own festival!

(SPOT.ph) Aside from the lechon in every home's dining table, the presence of marching bands is also a must-have in any Philippine festival. You'd know that the procession is coming as soon as you hear the distinct roar of drums and high-pitched sound of the horn. It's a signal for everyone to drop whatever they're doing and witness the spectacle right from their window.

But for the Cultural Center of the Philippines, marching bands aren't just for fiestas, in fact, they can have a festival of their own. IHUDYAT! 2017, an assembly of the finest Philippine marching bands, is scheduled to happen on March 25 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

Philippine Coast Guard

Participating are the bands of the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Marines, The Citizens’ Brigade Band of Dasmariñas, and the Imus Youth Symphonic Band. Aside from the groups' own medleys, "Pandango sa Ilaw" by National Artist for Music Col. Antonino Buenaventura and "Lahing Kayumanggi" by National Artist Lucio San Pedro will be presented.

Through IHUDYAT! 2017, the country celebrates the significance of the marching band in Filipino culture, including its reflection of the communities' interconnectedness as well as the people's innate flare for melody through brass winds and rhythm through the beating of the drums.

IHUDYAT! 2017 is on March 25, 4 p.m. at the UP Amphitheater, University of the Philippines - Diliman, Quezon City. For more information, visit the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ website.
