(SPOT.ph) “Imagining Identity: 100 Filipino Self-Portraits” will be on exhibit at the Finale Art File in Makati from February 9 to March 4. The portraits are from the personal collection of passionate art enthusiasts Paulino and Hetty Que, and were handpicked to highlight various ways by which Filipino visual artists—who have altered our ways of seeing the world—represent themselves.

Included in the collection are works from the 1800s, the oldest of which is by Filipino artist Damian Domingo, the first Filipino painter to depart from the tradition of religious art under Spanish colonization. Also part of the exhibit is Juan Luna’s “Indio Bravo” (1886) which was the first painting Que acquired for the collection. Other artists featured in the exhibit include Jose Tence Ruiz, Nena Saguil, David Medalla, and younger artists Lyra Garcellano, Troy Ignacio, Mark Justiniani, Yasmin Sison-Ching, Tatong Recheta Torres, and Liv Romualdez-Vinluan.

“Imagining Identity: 100 Filipino Self-Portraits” will be on view from February 9 to March 4, 2012 at Finale Art File, located at Warehouse 17, La Fuerza Compound, 2241 Chino Roces Avenue (Pasong Tamo), Makati City.
