Ria Limjap's Pinoy Movie Wishlist

Ria Limjap | Published: Sep 15, 2009 - 4:47pm

I'm so glad Kimmy Dora is doing well at the box office. According to reports, the Bb. Joyce Bernal-directed comedy starring Eugene Domingo made 15 million in its first week. That's pretty awesome for an independent film with a relatively unknown lead actor. Even better, Kimmy Dora unified the audience. Whether bakya crowd or the well heeled, whether watching in SM Santa Mesa or at the Power Plant cinemas in Rockwell–people went to the movies for Kimmy and Dora Go Dong Hae.

I guess people want to laugh these days. It's been quite somber around here.

So I'm looking forward to the stuff Spring Films will churn out now that their first effort paid off. Please, please, please let it be the good stuff!

This got me thinking: what kind of movies do I want to see?

How about:

Lady Guard, the story of a lonely middle aged "tomboyish" lady guard who works at the children's museum. The lady guard develops a special relationship with the eccentric music teacher who conducts the children's choir. Imagine the painfully awkward love scenes in this dramedy starring (ideally) Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III. (Wait, isn't she in jail for stashing 8 gms. of shabs in her bag?)

Or what about paying homage to Brian de Palma's Phantom of the Paradise and the 1958 Sampaguita Pictures movie Beloved starring Gloria Romero and Rick Rodrigo? You know: scarred monster/musical genius pining and plotting away for the beautiful muse. It's a tragic Pinoy-kitsch melodrama but stylish, tight, and darkly glamorous. Shot around the CCP, with the architecture informing the film's aesthetic. Ooh, the potential soundtrack…with Iza Calzado as the damsel, Noni Buencamino as the scarred monster, and Baron Geisler as the surprising choice for the romantic lead.

Okay, last: a Lino Brocka biopic. Brocka was so ahead of his time: a poor boy who had to fake an American accent to get work, an outspoken gay activist strutting his stuff in an oppressive political climate, a legendary director whose body of work deftly portrays all the damages of our culture. Needs to be chockfull of showbiz gossip, political intrigue, a bunch of cameo appearances, old news footage…starring…okay, I'm out of ideas and open to suggestions.

What would you like to see?

See Ria, the power of Nora Aunor, the one and only superstar, marami pa ring comment sa blog mo kahit halos isang buwan nang nakaraan ang isinulat mo. Marami pa ring nagmamahal kay Nora Aunor.

I would like a remake of Maricel Soriano's Ikaw Pa Lang ang MInahal. I would like Marian Rivera to reprise Maricel's role and JLC to do the role of Richard Gomez.

A remake of Salome or Insiang would be great, too.

ano ba naman ang mga suggestions ng mga posters dito, walang kaima-imahinasyon!

my scriptwriter-friend (college buddy) and i are working on a couple of scripts which we will try and "pimp" over to producers. it's a HEIST movie in a pinoy setting... i don't want to reveal any details, but all i can say is that it's chok-full of pinoy pop-culture references and cameos, and is partially-inspired by the susan-amalia parternship in the 50's and 60's.

WOW! This blog is still a headliner in PEP after 2 more blogs that you wrote? Ria, Do you NOW understand the pull of a Nora Aunor? See how many comments you have compared to your other blogs? Now you know why writers use Ms. Aunor. Ano pa eh di para sumikat din sila!!! She still can command reactions, negative or positive.

Request lang sana...next time, if you write about Ate Guy, I hope you really research on the subject about her. Kasi napaghahalatang pabondying bondying ka lang sumulat.

The question mark on the side comment about Ate Guy didn't help in any way even if your intention was to tone it down a little. It just shows your insensitive side.

I would like to see Dennis Trillo in a movie that will showcase his acting versatility. He is one of the more versatile actors of his generation who has played different roles. People are used to seeing him as a romantic leading man or in fantaseryes which has made him typecasted on tv. But, he has played varied roles already - as a confused gay spy in Aishte Imasu movie which earned him several acting awards; as a swindler in his first indie movie, Astig, as a mentally challenged man in this year's APT Lenten tv presentation (sorry, i forgot the title), as a cerebral palsy victim in one of the episodes in the defunct Magpakailanman show etc.... And so, more of Dennis Trillo's versatility in the movies, please.

Hi Ria. Don't pretend to care about Philippine cinema when you can't respect one of its institutions, Nora Aunor, who had done so much to upgrade it. Maybe you're simply uninformed about her accomplishments, but I hope you'll try to learn as much as so you can.

I wish to see the original Superstar Nora Aunor in comedy films just like what she did in Ibalik ang Suwerte, Relax ka Lang Mama, Batu-Bato sa Langit, and even in Huwag Hamakin Hostess produced in the 70s. Wala munang heavy drama. Magaling din niya sa comic roles. Watch the movies I mentioned and you will forget your problem.Just make people laugh.

I would like to see what happened after the wedding of the characters in the 'Funeral' TV ad in Singapore directed by Yasmin Ahmad - about a wife who lived and loved her 'beautifully-imperfect' husband and at the ending scene, a similar eulogy scene where the wife did not praise her husband but instead recalled his imperfections that made him perfect for her.

national hero - a spoofy comedy about a clumsy but handsome balikbayan who comes back to discover his roots and stumbles into the role of saviour of the philippines. a commentary about the ridiculous star-system in the philippines, it's relation to politics, and how balikbayans think they know but have no idea. oh, and how "WTF? this can actually happen." cast somebody dusky, a beard would work. haha.

RIA LIM JAP,I beleive writers are doing their research in order to become a credible so the readers will beleive in him/her write ups.But in your case it means you are intellectual but you dont do your assignment before you write and because of that i suggest next time please do some research before writing a story that will hurt millions of fans all over the world about NORA AUNOR.For your info Ms Ria Nora never been jailed because of the prohibited substance like you wrote okay?she was accused but acquitted for no enough evidence and her drug tests are consistent NEGATIVE , infact she is an IMMIGRANT in the United States of America already and has GREEN CARD .If you dont know you will undergo MEDICAL EXAM when you applied for your Immigrant status even in other countries. Why Nora passed the exam with flying colors and why Nora got her green card ?Can you answer that? Or maybe you are not really aware what is going on with Nora ? so better shut up , dont write about Nora if you are not sure of what you are writing ,or simply search and do your assignment properly so you could be a credible writer .Im sorry you hurt our feelings and we dont deserve to be hurt by somebody who doesnt have a CREDEBILITY in writing.

MY ULTIMATE WISH TO SEE IN THE SCREEN IS THE COMEBACK MOVIE OF NORA AUNOR WITH NO OTHER THAN HER PERENNIAL ARCHRIVAL VILMA SANTOS WITH CHRISTOPHER DE LEON EDU MANZANO AND SUPPORT OF LUIS MANZANO AND IAN DE LEON AS GAY COUPLE AGAIN, A DRAMAMEDY , MOVIE NORA PLAYING OF COURSE THE MOTHER OF IAN AND VILMA PLAYING MOTHER OF LUIS MANZANO .THE 2 SUPERSTARS WILL PLAY AS KUNSINTIDORANG MOTHERS AND WILL PLAY AS THEIR HUSBANDS ARE THEIR REAL LIFE EX HUSBANDS.THE STORY ALSO WILL SHOW WHY NORA AND CHRISTOPHER SEPARATED SAME AS VILMA AND EDU ,ITS BECAUSE THEY FIND OUT THAT THEIR RESPECTIVE HUSBANDS ARE ALSO LOVERS WHEN THEY ARE NOT AROUND.ISNT IT INTERESTING?IT MIGHT HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE. WELL ITS AN URBAN LEGEND THAT THESE TWO HUNKY DADS HAS THIS STORY OF HOMOSEXUALITY ACTS IN THEIR PAST.EDU BEING A ALAGA OF CHRISTIAN ESPIRITU AND A BUDDY LOVER OF MIGUEL RODRIGUEZ.AND WHO DONT KNOW THE STORY OF BOYET AND PHILIPP SALVADOR IN FOUR CORNER SHOWBIZ WORLD?

I would like to see a Filipino slice-of-life movie about a 20-something woman from a typical middle-class family living in San Pablo City, Laguna, who tries to start a punk rock band with her friends. It has to be very realistic, as in the main cast depicting young musicians REALLY playing their instruments, rehearsing and arguing about The Ramones and 'aswang' in one scene. It may have a romantic angle, but the guy should be either a musician or at least a music fan. He should look like a nerdy music fanatic who will tout the merits of Death Cab For Cutie, wear shirts with local band logos, own a Radioactive Sago CD, and is an isaw' addict with a slight paunch. The romance should be incidental to the plot, no unnecessary/gratuitous kissing scenes, and the plot should center on the lives of local music subculture kids in a Southern Luzon suburb. There should be lots of BELIEVABLE comical situations involving young adulthood hang-ups, the pressure to conform to the Filipino social status quo, getting a normal office job versus following your dreams, all done with improvised dialogues and a lot of local flavour.
