Lourd de Veyra: Insert Dignity Here

But that cesspool inside your head should not have a direct pipeline to the mouth. Between the id and speech a silent chasm exists. It keeps the world safe. If everyone were to speak out their minds, sea levels would rise due to continental bloodbaths.

Then that word.

Joey de Leon or Willie Revillame would have pounced on the situation. But the Senate is neither Eat Bulaga nor Wowowee, although sometimes you can't tell the difference (There are times when the Senate resembles a karnabal, only with a worse set of grotesqueries, even uglier furniture, and excessive air conditioning). On that Monday afternoon, something happened to Senate Minority President Aquilino Pimentel: inside his antiquarian head, suddenly a bridge propped up, linking that dark part of his subconscious to his mouth. Senator Pimentel–former law school dean, Martial Law-era freedom fighter, and author of the Local Government Code–was helpless against the temptations of the word's connotations. The gentleman from Cagayan de Oro cracked a joke truly unfathomable in its tastelessness. I was following the entire proceedings on TV. A similarly crude punch line from the nasty double entendre was also simmering in my head, but then again, last time I checked, I was not a senator appearing on national TV. And also the possibility: what if somebody on the floor said something about insertions and honeymoons at this minute?

Kaboom.

I'm normally comatose in front of the TV. But that minute, you could've heard me scream from three blocks away. The last time I did that was when Michael Jordan nailed that buzzer-beating jumper over Bryon Russell to beat Utah. That was back in '98.

I could hardly believe my ears. The old sonofabitch did say it.

One tabloid headline accurately summed it up: "MGA SENADOR, NAGBASTUSAN." And we all thought that the Hayden Kho hearing was the nadir.

    The great statesmen like Claro M Recto, Ninoy Aquino, Gerry Roxas et.al would have turned in their graves with these embarassing sessions happening in the senate floor..what is happening to our country?

    I unfortunately never got around watching the news about the now famous "insertion" joke. But reading about it in the newspapers has the word "INAPPROPRIATE" written all over it. And I voted for Pimentel the last time.=( Maybe senility is getting the best of him just like Enrile. Tsk!

    I guess by now everyone knows about the ICE CREAM and CAKE Roxas got from the insertions joke. Tsk!

    @JunPyo,

    What happened to these former activists? Joker, Binay, Pimentel, Morales ? busy getting rich !
    Add Condrad de Quiroz,Alex Magno, Satur Ocampo, Liza Maza, what have you got? That's why the Left has no credibility at all...
  • Gang Badoy Jan 29 2010 @ 10:15pm Report Abuse
    Imagine - 98 out of 100 men will think of a sexual retort upon hearing the word "insertion." (the remaining 2 didn't hear it or don't understand English)

    Among the 98 men mentioned- 95 will blurt it out IF in the company of good friends and while under the influence of alcohol or whatever.

    2 will either euphemize or mutter it under their breaths.

    1.5 will say it out loud no matter where they are.

    .000000005 will say it during a Senate hearing!

    Imagine that. Sen Pimentel is RARE!

    And this is an example of bad math making a useless point.

    your the man, lourd!

    watched you also in tv5.

    man, where have all the former activists gone?
    jojo binay - cavorting with erap, treating makati as his fiefdom

    joker arroyo - i think is in manny villar's payroll, he used to be so critical of corruption

    boy morales - last thing i heard, he was erap's DAR sec. what the hell did he do?

    nene pimentel - was so devastated by his son's loss in his senate bid, lost his mind hence the 'insert' comment.

    my brother admires you very much, and is very proud of being your friends in FB (I'm not really sure if it was you or just a poser). He had your poems printed out and posted on his room's wall. Hahaha. Well, so I just thought to check out on you... of course I know some songs sang by your band, and I guess, most of them are written by you. Hehehe. i just tried to google you and there I found this site. Great writeups and really great. Just two suggestions, maybe you should improve your site and if you can at least also write in Filipino or Tagalog to reach to out to more Filipinos . Most of your popular songs are Tagalogs so I think you can do that as well. Nakakaasar isipin na some Filipino artists na sumisikat ang awiting Tagalog na Tagalog, patok na patok at pang masa, pero in interviews (just like Bamboo and Kitchie Nadal) ni hindi man lang narining na makapagTagalog. Hay naku. Hindi ko pa naman kayo nakikita sa interviews, but have watched and heard you speak malalim na Tagalog in some videos, (obviously those are scripted?). I;m just curious, ang galing mo kasing sumulat in second language. I hope you can do the same with our own mother language. Thanks.

    NENE will go down in history as a GERIATRIC TRASH.

    Gone are the days when he is labeled as a top HUMAN RIGHTS defender.

    Last time I checked, abused children have rights too.

    When you yelled at Jamby, whether your accusation is fact or not, I lost all my respect for an elderly statesman like you.

    SHAME ON YOU!

    Nene Pimentel is what we call in Spanish "no probecho". In Tagalog, walang pinag katandaan.

    What a spectacle he made of himself. I was cringing with shame while watching him display his lack of breeding. Que pobrecito.

    Pillsbury Dough Woman, The Chinless Wonder from Taguig...you already made nicknames for the Royal Rumble in the Senate hehehehehehe.

    Makes me wonder the amount of money or deals they made for the person they are defending..Must be pretty big as they made no hesitations making senate look like the Jerry Springer Show.

    The sad thing is, this tirade of vulgar and distasteful banters is exactly what the Villar camp wanted - or if they did not really orchestrate this shameful ploy, this fits perfectly to what they wanted.

    More "drama" like this would just keep Villar from answering the substantive accusations hurled against him. Remember, there are only a few days before the Senate takes a break and this sideshow (turned top-bill) is all that occupied the news. Villar's camp knows how facile we are in reacting to circus staged by our "honorable" solons.

    It may even be wiser for the media to just put a gag on itself than let their readers/viewers/listeners endure this - or at least, until something really worthy gets done in the Senate. Otherwise, the Villar camp would be vindicated as we eat their crock of human excreta.

    As for Nene, after being an admirable stalwart in the 2001 impeachment process, I've never seen anyone's reputation take a blisteringly faster nosedive in Philippine politics.

    Hopefully, it would be Villar's rep (or the vomit-inducing aggrandizement of it) which would follow suit.

    @daniel,

    i agree with you that most of our legislators have acted as if they do not have breeding. However, it would be unfair to say that reputable schools are the breeding ground of bastos and walang modong legislators.
    We cannot define the university solely based on the actions of SOME of its graduates. :)

    Nene, Joker, at magkapatid na Cayetano: Magkano po ba ang binayad sa inyo ni Manny Villar?

    Mga MUKHANG PERA kayo lahat!

    Sira ulo na lang ang boboto kay VILLAR at sa mga alipores na ito.

    It's not as if Nene is under medication or his medula oblongata is actually connected to his tongue? Hay si Nene talaga, like Johnny, hindi pa patay, nagpaparamdam na. I guess at a certain point in their lives, they should really give up their political careers. Their pruned-up brains can't simply cope with the simplest of mental gymnastics. Nene, leave gracefully, write a book, celebrate your success, rest on your laurels, bask in all your glory, then die, then if you think people loves you, a bust or a free standing monument might be your passport to immortality. But then again... Tao po! Tao po! Hay, the light's on but nobody home. Nene, just enjoy the remaining years of your life. Build a beach house in Camiguin. Invite Jamboy so you can play bahay-bahayan. Jologness does not become you. Even if you publicly apologize and pray, you're marked for life. Explain your actions to your grand children. Show them the video and let's see what they say to that. Remember casualness breed casualties.

    @Lourd,

    This geezer, has been very bitter since is presidential ambitions went pffffft, and usually his bete-noire was the other geezer, Johnny E.,his alleged jailer & tormentor during the dark M years. That's why all the sewer that emanates from his mouth is a cumulative distillation of all his frustrations and pent-up emotions gathered all these decades...
