Comelec wants Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo transferred to "regular detention facility"

Published: Jan 25, 2012 - 11:18am

Interaksyon.com reports that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) "has asked the Pasay City court to transfer Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to a regular detention facility after over a month of staying under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC)." The former president has been the VMMC since December 9, 2011.

The report cited Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, who said said the motion was filed before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (Branch 112) at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24. Jimenez added that "the Comelec has also asked the Pasay RTC to direct the director of the VMMC or Arroyo's doctors to submit a report on the necessity of Arroyo to remain at the VMMC."

This smacks of persecution. This is how the present dispensation treats a lady who towed this country out of the 2008 world economic slump and subsequent recession, and who helped this country achieve 7.3 percent GDP growth several years back, She's also the one responsible for the massive growth of the BPO sector. With only 1,500 call center agents in '99, there are easily 500,000 now, a big pie of it employed during her watch. By the way, unemployment during Estrada's watch was hitting at close to 15 percent. She cut that down to 7 percent. The lady was a success yet they will all throw that out the window and exile her to an asylum, if need be. Comforting.
