PEP.ph reports that in the March 13 broadcast of Unang Hirit, host Arnold Clavio fired off a tirade against the Philippine Azkals. This was because two members of the team—Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado—are being accused of sexual harassment by Cristy Ramos. Ramos, the daughter of former President Fidel V. Ramos, serves as match commissioner for the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). In one of Unang Hirit's segments, Clavio had discussed the Ramos-Azkals issue. Then, at some point, Clavio addressed the Azkals, saying, "Talagang aral na sa inyo 'yan. Ang yayabang n'yo. Akala n'yo porke't dinadagsa kayo ng mga fans, ang gaguwapo n'yo, e. Parang God's gift to women (Let it serve as a lesson to all of you. You're all so arrogant. You think because you have fans that you look so good. Like God's gift to women)." Clavio went on to defend Ramos and support her statement against the Azkals. Clavio then addressed the Azkals once more: "Hindi naman kayo Filipino. Nagpapanggap lang kayong kayumanggi. Hindi kayo dito lumaki, mahirap yun. Insensitive (You're not Filipinos. You're only pretending to be brown-skinned. You didn't grow up here, that's hard. Insensitive)."
On March 14, via her Twitter page, actress Angel Locsin, who is reportedly the girlfriend of Azkals player Phil Younghusband posted a series of tweets which said, "I think Arnold Clavio's a good person. But this time, sobrang foul lang (it's just so foul). That's his opinion. This is mine. Madali lang sumira ng reputasyon, mahirap ibalik. Konting sensitivity lang sana (It's easy to ruin reputations, it's hard to restore it. A little sensitivity, please)." When one Twitter user dissed her, Locsin tweeted this reply: "I'm reacting about the racist comment not the harassment issue. Have a nice day."
ABS-CBNNews.com revealed that in the sports show Hardball, hosts Bill Velasco and Boyet Sison also weighed in on Clavio's anti-Azkals tirade. Velasco noted: "[It] is a generalization based on one incident." Meanwhile, Sison said, "I can state one name that rings a bell, who has Filipino blood but not completely Filipino—Robert Jaworski. The name itself, he's Polish-American. I could even go as far as the President of this Republic (Benigno Aquino III), who everybody knows has a bit of Chinese blood in his veins."
In the same ABS-CBNNews.com report, it was noted that Clavio had already issued an apology (of sorts) for his anti-Azkals tirade. In an official statement posted on GMA News Online, Clavio said, "Ang isyu po rito ay sexual harassment at kung may nagamit man po akong mga salita na hindi angkop, nagpapakumbaba po ako at humihingi ng pang-unawa (The issue here is sexual harassment and if I said anything improper, I apologize and I ask for undestanding)." Clavio did not address the "racist" allegation.
