10 Best Tapsilog in Manila

Published: May 28, 2010 - 5:02pm

7. TAPSI NI VIVIAN AT BULALUHAN
6 Lauan St., Barangay Duyan-Duyan, Project 3, Quezon City
Tel. no. 433-4267
Open 24 hours daily

tapsi-ni-vivian-food1

Although the establishment was founded in 1984, very few outsiders, to this day, know who Vivian really is. Management and staff—“who, by the way, wear signature pink shirts and visors —“are tight-lipped about her identity although pictures of a smiling middle-aged female—“presumably Vivian—“are displayed prominently inside the dining area. Fortunately, the big to-do about her identity has not gotten in the way of her famous dish. Although the Beef Tapa (P80) itself is served cold—“having been mixed and cooked beforehand —“ the strips are tasty and the portions generous.

8. JOLLIBEE
Philocoa, Diliman, Quezon City with various branches
Tel. no. 8-7000 (Hotline)
Open 24 hours daily (select branches)

jollibee-food1

The fastfood Tapsilog Combo Meal (P76) comes with a regular-sized drink of your choice and is only available during breakfast. (That would be from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) The tapa comes in the form of beef bits. More on the salty side, it's served with a cup of fried rice and poached sunny side up egg. It's not "classy" tapa but it sure has its fans.

i love tapsilog and i've been on above. In my own experience and opinion, the best tapsilog is Irma&Teri's Tapsilogan located at Citihomes Subd Molino4 Bacoor Cavite (likod ng SM Molino). Their tapa is tender, juicy and has all the right blend of tapa in it. And it comes with a FREE ice tea for 55pesos only! I talked with the owner (irma) and she told me it's her own recipe, I hope they sell uncooked tapa :) Oh by the way, their pansit canton is the best. Lasang lasa talaga at good for two persons pa sa halagang 65 lang

I don't mind if you add expensive tapa places but you didn't include Bfast/Bistro Filipino Chef Laudico's Angus Beef Tapsilog.... it is expensive but worth it and you also get that in there eat all you can in bistro filipino... just my 2 ents

I don\'t think it qualifies as a tapsilog dish but for php 99, you get Mang Jimmy\'s tapa Mix with unlimited rice. The beef and pork strips come tender, flavorful with a smoky aftertaste and serves 3-4 hungry dudes. you can always order an egg on the side :)

Rodic's is awesome. They also have this chili powder where you can mix with your vinegar. The sweetness of the tapa bits and the vinegar+chili powder and the glorious amount of sinangag makes Rodic's the BEST.

try taps in antipolo(behind ELopez Center and Cloud 9). it captured the perfect mix of sweetness and saltiness with the right meat texture that makes its tapa so enjoyable to eat (parang yung corned beef sa taza de oro)coupled with its own mixed vegetable atsara (talong, sitaw, ampalaya, onions plus apples),double yolk fried egg and pospas all for 88 pesos! enjoy the fantastic view of the metropolis at night or the Sirra Madre mountain range.

you could also order tapa as pulutan (P125 for a hefty serving)to go with taps "beer na puti", that's chilled beer for only P32.

To Igeramos... I think those are Maty's you mean... Yes, they are all over the place.. and they're been there since the 80's.... and still geat, though I've experienced bad servings..

And As for Sinangag Express in Makati CInema Square ... They have gone downhill and never seem to care.. I should know coz I live in the area since 1996. The egg was fried carelessly. The rice seemed newly cooked with the garlic just mized in, and it wasn't hot.. The condiments are 'tinipid'. And soup I never even cared to taste. Worst of all, the staff don't care a bit about improving their service, it definitely reflect's the owner - maybe he's just happy enough with the so-so business...

I remember Tapsi Ni Vivian from way back in the mid-90s. Back then, their tapsilog was made of ground beef and not strips - was best with their spicy vinegar and onions.

@Boom - I Have tried "I Have Two Eggs" tapsilog and it wasn't my type. And so far anyone I know didn't like it either.

Another resto with great tapsilog is MOMO at the eastwood city mall. The dish is actually a all-Filipino breakfast meal and comes with an omelette and longanisa.

one of the best hole-in-the whole resto i've eaten very sumptuous tapsilog (with my kind of belnd - saltier than sweet) is tuding's located in various places in laguna and carmona. though their main specialty is their delicious porkchop, they make a mean taspilog too!

Jollibee? No way! And Good-ah??? Come on!!! Are you basing this on popularity or flavor? Besides, how can you not include Sweet Inspirations!???!

Goodah made it to the 10 BEST tapsilog in all of Manila?! No way!

We ate there a few months ago. Aside from the tapa being very tough, the fried rice and egg smelled of old oil pa. When we complained, yung sagot ng girl at the counter was "ganun po talaga." Yuck. Plus medyo mahal sya for P75.

@psychoCOW, I agree with you. SEX branches in BF Paranaque are way better than the MCS Branch.

@igeramos, it seems that you're very familiar with the vicinity. Actually, napakaraming tapsihan from tambo-don galo- la huerta-san dionisio area.. and extending up to sucat. Teka, hindi ba ikaw na din ang nagreply sa comment ko noon na hindi ka naniniwala na may "cheap" eats pa below P100? Na baka mas mahal pa ang medical bill mo right after eating?

While I agree with most of the list, I have to disagree with the inclusion of Sinangag Express (Makati Cinema Square Branch) in this list. IT'S HORRIBLE. You guys got this so wrong! The two Sinangag Express branches in BF Parañaque are way better than the branch in MCS, BY A MILE!

And I'm also surprised Jollibee made it to this list. In fairness, their Tapa is pretty good, I just thought there may be other restos that might be better. But it's hard to find fault in this list, though.

I like the one from Sinangag Express and Tapa King (Tapa Prince for me.. *w00t*) :D

I wanna try the one from Mr. Jones though, coz I heard it's good.

@Haha I stand corrected. It is between La Huerta and San Dionisio and not Don Galo. So it is along Quirino Ave going to Zapote. Thank you for pointing it out to me.

@mary ann lei where does your dad get the meat of the tapang usa? is it wild, like a game? interesting.

@igeramos, From the directions you've said, I dont remember any tapsihan between SPCP and Don Galo Bridge.. baka going to Zapote right after St. Paul.. Don Galo is in the opposite direction going to MIA..

Best tapsihan of all time will be Marlett's at Abad Santos, Tondo. Non-comparable to all the places that has been mention in this article. In its heyday in the 90's, you even have to ask somebody whose eating to reserve his seat for you after his done. With the table and chairs extending to the middle of the street just to accommodate all customers.

i met Vivian of Tapsi ni Vivian some years ago while working on a project for Maggi! Her first tapsihan was somewhere in Antipolo, near the church area. Masarap ang tapsi. :)

Dati yata syang model and she has loads of pics with artistas and politicians in the antipolo store. :)

The best tapsilogs I've tried are found among the oldest food joints in Bambang, Manila -- Aling Chades and Lola Ely's. Although sanitation can be quite questionable in these establishments, the savory tapa they offer would certainly not disappoint one's discriminating taste! Everything on the menu is cheap, and every order comes with a free yummy sabaw!

I also love the the tapsilog at Gram's Diner! It's a must-try, too! Yum!

    Via Mare's sun-dried tapa/tapsilog is good too.

rufo's earns plus points for the sauce..and they're generous with it,even if you didnt order tapsilog..but rodic's is really the one that hits the spot!

The best tapsilog for me would be my dad's tapsi! Tapang usa kasi! As in deer tapa! Yum! Not beef!

my vote goes to Rufos for its tapa with "sauce" and Rodics for the tapa "floss" :)

One of the best I tasted is along the main road going to Zapote in La Huerta in Parañaque right after St. Paul's College and St Andrew's Church and just before reaching Brgy. Don Galo boundary. There are dozens of hole-in-a-wall tapsihan. Best time to go is just before midnight when the traffic is lighter. You eat with the jeepney drivers that ply the Baclaran-Zapote route. Interesting food anthropology.

the one across Rembrandt Hotel in tomas Morato. name of resto is "I Have Two Eggs" double yolk eggs on tapsilog.

the tapa at the original sinangag express disappointed me to no end. i thought they had one of the masarap na tapsilog kasi mabango when i pass by there going to buendia. hanggang smell lang pala yung sarap nya.

    Wow!

Jollibee make it to the list? interesting...

Not a good choice for me though.

FYI Cocoy's pares tapsilog are one of the best.
