You might be all grown up now, but if the sight of pizza brings back images of turtles yelling ‘Cowabunga!’, then you’re in good company. From the thin crusts of Italy to the deep dishes of America, and decades after arriving in our shores, pizza has gone a long way and taken many forms. Now deeply Filipinized and embedded in our national psyche, the picha pie that’s haunted the fevered dreams of Parokya ni Edgar is more globalized and gourmet than ever.
In this case, we’ve taken ‘gourmet’ to mean pizzas that borrow unexpected but surprisingly amazing ingredients ranging from curry to sisig to truffle oil. It’s an unusual, ambitious take, one that we expect will spawn endless debate among serious foodies (not that we mind). Here, our top contenders. Let’s begin!
