10 Addictively Bad Love Songs

Jansen Musico | Published: Feb 9, 2010 - 7:00am

As we enter the week of romance, we can't help but feel a little bit smitten (or bitter), wallowing in the stomach-churning melodies of sappy ballads. Like lovesick puppies, we tend to lose ourselves to the emotional rush they give us as we tune in and listen or, God forbid, sing along.

SPOT.ph lists down 10 of the most addictively bad love songs that will probably always have a place in every KTV machine in the country:

"As Long As You Love Me" by the Backstreet Boys

Cheesiness: Laughs:

Why it's addictive: It's an old-school Backstreet Boys track, of course it's addictive. It makes singing "Quit Playing Games" and "I Want It That Way" with matching boyband choreography look completely normal.

Why it's bad: While listening to the song, you're forced to ask whether the boys have zero standards in choosing their flames, or if they really just don't care if their lovers end up being deranged serial killers or bald, middle-aged men.

Our favorite line: "I don't care who you are, where you're from, what you did, as long as you love me."

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler

Cheesiness: Laughs:

Why it's addictive: It grabs you in a hypnotic, phantom-like way. That's probably because of how the words "turn around" supersede every other lyric of the song; we might as well change the title to "Turn Around Bright Eyes."

Why it's bad: Aside from its "superb" lyrics, we should also mention that the video is equally hilarious, especially if you watch the literal version.

Our favorite lines: "I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark. We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks."

death to POGI bands! at par with the garbage in the international scene.

Journey should be there and Air Supply. But I have good memories from them. They were lullabies that put me to sleep when I was was a wee bit kid....

I don't think the bands champoy mentioned are just "pogi" bands. They actually have really nice songs that can be considered at par with international singers. Besides, as for the cliche lyrics, almost every songs have this even international singers.

...Yah, 2nd the motion, bakit walang air supply!!! I get bombarded with Air Supply hits everytime I ride the bus going to work.

...Songs from Celine Dione, Jessa and Meatloaf are also top favourites in your local Beerhouse and KTV Disco Theatre.

..I think Spot should also make a list for this hehehehehe.

Naalala ko nung sumikat yung lecheng hale song na yan. I wanted to kill myself whenever I was stuck hearing that song in public transportation. I wanted to jump off the jeep/bus. Kaya napilitan tuloy akong bumili ng mp3 player just to avoid being stuck listening to that song in public places. "she's already taken, she's already taken, she's already taken me!!!" Arghhh, what an awful band. What awful, awful lyyrics! Tapos nauso pa yung Callallily, Spongecola, Cueshe, 6cyclemind etc. Dapat talaga bawiin na ang karapatang nating mga pinoy na bumoto. dapat martial law na. Malapit na siguro ang apokalipsis.

Arggh, sorry for the long rant. I just hate those "pogi" bands.
