10 Things to Do & Where to Go This Long Weekend

Published: Aug 25, 2010 - 9:40pm

What's happening in Manila this long weekend? SPOT.ph zeroes in on the events and happenings you shouldn't miss.

1. MAKE SOME NOISE.

Silent films speak louder than words at the 4th International Silent Film Fest happening on August 28 and 29 at the Shang Cineplex Cinema 2, EDSA Shangri-la Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City. Screenings are free. Hurry up and call the participating institutions presenting the films to reserve your seats before slots run out. Watch quality silent films from Spain, Italy, Germany, and Japan accompanied by some of our country's best bands: Tanglaw, Caliph8, Out of Body Special, and Radio Active Sago Project. Click here to see the schedule and synopses.

2. PUSH THE GREEN ENVELOPE.

The term "green-minded" gets a makeover at the 1st International Eco Show: Eco-Solutions for a Greener Tomorrow from August 26 to 28 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. The three-day event is a trade fair and conference featuring ways to create eco-sustainable businesses. View the exhibit, attend the conference, join the photography contest, and/or witness the 1st Pine Awards--your call. Click here to view the e-brochure. You can also visit the Pines website for more details.

3. SHOP, "LIKE", POST AND WIN!

Treat yourself to a shopping spree this long weekend at the Mid-Year Sale! Sale! at Market! Market! and get the chance to win prizes such as Grolier books and gadgets like HP laptop, Globe Tattoos, and cellphones. Step 1: Shop at the Mid-Year Sale! Sale! at Market! Market!. 4. BONE UP ON DEFENSE MECHANISMS.

Know what to do during life-threatening situations. Attend the Knife and Gun Seminar by Krav Maga Philippines on August 28, 1 to 6 p.m. at the Krav Maga Philippines Gym, San Juan City and find out how to kick some bad guy's ass. Learn how to counter an assailant armed with a knife or a gun (God forbid both) from KMP Chief Instructor Dindo de Jesus and Head of Makati KMP Edmundo T. Ongsiako Jr. Seminar fee is P1, 500. For more details, call 726-50-21 and look for Ms. Jessica de Jesus.

5. UNLEASH YOUR INNER URBAN BAZAARISTA.

Urban living isn't complete without bazaar shopping. Shop your heart out at the Rockwell Urban Bazaar from August 27 to 29 at the Rockwell Tent, Makati City and scout fun, rare, and fashionable items. Stop by shops like Obra/Kathang Kamay for unusual handicraft pieces, Fancy Flats for stylish and fierce flats, Tava Novelties for quirky novelty items, and PopJunkLove for vintage and pop culture trinkets.
