Pepsi Paloma was only in her teens when she became a "bold star."
3. The Pepsi Paloma Rape Case
Scandal Status: The complainant dropped the charges against her alleged rapists.
In 1982, Pepsi Paloma, an actress who starred in the era's so-called "bold films," accused comedians Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D' Horsey of rape. According to a PCIJ.org article, the actress, who was then only around 16 years old, sought help from then Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile. Enrile, in turn, referred the case to the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices (ACCRA). Enrile tapped Atty. Renato Cayetano to be Paloma's lawyer. The three comedians later reportedly issued a public apology to her for whatever wrong they might have done and she subsequently dropped the charges against them. Some reports say the court cited "insufficient evidence" as well. In 1985, Paloma committed suicide.
