been eating at Shinjuku for years now , their ramen is the best , no other japanese restos serving ramen can match shinjuku , best are gumoku, karakuchi ( spicy) and also try the cold noodles .

Tried this resto the other day with my fiance to relieve our 2-day ramen craving. We usually get our fix at Shinjuku but we were piqued by the glowing reviews of my fiance's brother who said Ukokkei ramen is the best in town (well practically to that effect).

He recommended the miso butter corn flavor but not being fond of butter, we ordered the basic soy-based (Shoyu) and miso based (Miso) ramen at P300 each. The menu was disappointing because 4 pages have the same contents in the thick booklet, and there weren't pictures of the other items that weren't ramen. I guess they really expect customers to just order ramen.

Our order came out really quick which was great. Both flavors contained a slice of pork and chopped spring onions. The shoyu had bamboo shoots, lending a meaty undertone to the salty base, while my ramen had crunchy bean sprouts complimenting the sweetness of the miso base and giving it a crunchy texture. The pork slice was very flavorful and soft.

My fiance thought the shoyu forgettable, which I tipped him to sprinkle the ramen with chili powder to give it a kick, like what I did to mine. I enjoyed my miso ramen, but I prefer Shinjuku and even Nemoto's ramen. We felt that Ukokkei is overrated but it still made for a tasty, filling dinner that was perfect on that particular rainy night.
