Listed in the Philippine Tatler's Best Restaurants in 2008, Benjarong Royal Thai Cuisine can magically transport its diners to the Asian kingdom of Thailand through its gastronomic treasures. Benjarong, which literally means "five colors," offers authentic Thai dishes prepared by its Thai chef Khun Phacharaporn.
I dined there solo, but the wait staff made me feel right at ease. I chose Yam Som O (pomelo salad - P280++) for starters. The serving size is good for 2 to 3 persons. I loved how the marinated chicken fillets and the plump, succulent and tender prawns blended well with the citrusy-sweet pomelo. It's a burst of wonderful flavors in every bite. Next I ordered the Moo Gai Satay (mixed grilled pork and chicken meat in skewer - P360++) with a side of toast. Absolutely delicious, especially when dipped in the peanut sauce. The Khao Niew Mamuang (ripe mango with sticky rice - P190++) is a Thai dessert staple and it did not disappoint. The mango was perfectly sweet and complemented by the sticky rice with coconut cream. My drink of choice was Nam Bai Tuey (pandan juice - P160++), which was admittedly too expensive but surely completed the whole Thai gastronomic feast for me. Even the Thai girl playing the Kim (a Thai musical instrument) added a special touch to my entire dining experience.
