My friend from Hong Kong suggested last week that we try Choi Garden. I have not been very impressed with the quality of Chinese restaurants here in Manila but she assured me that they serve good Cantonese cuisine there. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we found the ambiance to be a little dark and gloomy. But I gather the atmosphere is not what the diners go to Choi for, as the place was packed with the lunchtime crowd gleefully tucking in. Luckily we were able to quickly find a table and sit down. The service was prompt although not particularly friendly. We decided to dispense with the menu and ask the restaurant manager for her recommendations.

Based on her recommendations, we ordered three dishes. The names of the dishes are my own translation as we ordered in Chinese. First up was the seafood soup. I am a big lover of soups and I found this one, with shrimp, fish and squid, to be delectable. It set up the next dish nicely: spinach stuffed tofu. I know the name does not sound particularly appetizing but it was definitely the best dish! The tofu was soft and creamy, nicely complemented by the brown sauce. Finally, we were served pork cooked with eggplant. This was also delicious, with a good combination of tastes from the pork, eggplant and chili.

Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. It is not my best Chinese meal ever but it is my best Chinese meal in Manila.

Choi garden maybe delicious but the price is too high it's good for the upper class; but there is one resto that is affordable it's Luck Restaurant and Seafood near Welcome. Since I do not have the picture of their food because it's always full and we always make take out (since they know us we call them up first so that we do not have to wait) you will surely enjoy them with price starting at P75 for their dimsum. The dimsum are super big.
