Win, Lose, or Draw? How will 10 top sites fare in 2010?

Tumblr

What is it? It's an online space, or something like a virtual scrapbook, where individuals can post just about anything, from cool finds to pop culture trends, personal projects and even diary entries. Users get a chance to reblog, like, ask, and also collaborate with their fellow Tumblrs from all over the world. The sudden influx of some local celebrities has notably raised Tumblr's popularity in the country.

The users: Tumblrfolk are varied depending on their personal preferences. They can range from artists, writers, reblog-addicts, comedians, and a slew of self-proclaimed hipsters.

2010 Forecast: The original Tumblr "hipsters" will be so freaked out by the surge of the "mainstream" crowd that they will be forced to evacuate and look for a more alternative, underground website.

Verdict: WIN-LOSE-DRAW (depending on the kind of user you are)

Formpsring.me

What it is: Wouldn't it be fun if you could ask your friends anything anonymously? Formspring is the site for all these controversial questions since it allows its users to receive and send anonymous questions or comments to other site users. Answers and reactions to questions and comments then get published on the user's page.

The users: Boy Abunda wannabes

2010 forecast: With Filipinos being naturally chismoso, expect Formspring to gain more popularity this year. Wouldn't it be cool if Krista Ranillo had one?

Verdict: WIN!

I completely agree w/ 4chan.rnrnAlso, facebook is really starting to suck these days. The new look is just lame.rnrnAs for tumblr, it'd be better if people who have bad grammar to just get the fvck out of there. It's just embarassing. At least know the difference of you're to your, their/there/they're...and other BASIC grammar stuff. Oh, and it's STUFF, not stuffs. WTF!? is stuffs? REDUNDANT much? From what pathetic school did you guys learn your grammar from anyway?rnrnAnd people need to know that tumblr's not freakin' facebook or twitter. You don't use tumblr for st*p*d arse status updates. Stick to facebook or twitter for that.

Between Plurk & Twitter? I'll go with Twitter anyday...it's more classy (depending on who you follow of course...or how you tweet that is)rnrnPlurk is just...too pre-teenesque...too 12-14 year old kind of site. And in a way, it's also "baduy". There's just too much going on with that site. It's like "Friendster", and Twitter's like "Facebook".rnrnAnd as for Friendster? Who the fvck even logs in there anymore? Or like, still hasn't deleted their account there...

I use plurk everyday but not as often as I use facebook. Plurk for me is more intuitive than twitter, as to twitter is just a regular status update. I say plurk is win, because it has more features. Although their home/search/main page is fail.

    @Metal

Apparently you don't know how many people have Plurk accounts... maybe because you only have Twitter? And Twitter is mainstream? :D

And how would you know that there are few users of Plurk? Do you have an account?

uhhhh... are you st*p*d? @Jon hindi naman kasi compare at contrast di ba? halata naman na walang konek ang robot sa looklet at ang multiply sa deviantart.
  • Jon Jan 14 2010 @ 07:12pm Report Abuse
And comparing Multiply with DevaintART just doesn't make sense =D

Plurk is far better than Twitter! It\'s just a matter of time. On Twitter you cannot follow conversation properly and there\'s ads and spam everywhere. Plurk FTW!

That's a LOL. I have both Plurk and Twitter; my Twitter is actually just a feed from my Plurk account. Both serve their own separate functions. I usually conduct my microblogging on Plurk because I enjoy the thread feature; there are plurks that get up to 300 replies, even, just like a forum thread. It's a good place to conduct a conversation or an intelligent discussion, which cannot be done on Twitter because I don't like to have to hunt for the answers to my tweets in several different places. I just go on Twitter whenever there's a hot issue I'd like to follow, or if something needs to be disseminated quickly. Afterwards, the post-mortem discussions and dissections of the fine points of the issue takes place on Plurk. But abandon Plurk for Twitter... puh-leeze. And allow my karma to drop? No way.

    May plurk ka ba?
  • Metal Jan 14 2010 @ 03:13pm Report Abuse
Feeling ko what Plurk needs is a layout upgrade. Celebs okay lang, pero mamatay din yan. Kaunti ng users eh.
  • somebody Jan 14 2010 @ 11:09am Report Abuse
I agree with scorched. I have both Plurk and Twitter accounts, and I find logging in to Plurk more often. Although the horizontal timeline is not user-friendly, Plurk for me is more interactive. My fellow plurkers and I actually hold discussions there.
  • scorched Jan 14 2010 @ 10:06am Report Abuse
Plurk doesn't need celebrities. The Plurk community as you don't know is very tight. There are many Plurk EBs here and there. Mas maraming at home sa Plurk na shempre, hindi nakikita ng mga tao since Twitter lang ang alam nila.

Plurk might lose on the number of celebrities using the app, but it's the bond between plurkers that really matters.

i think freindster lost large chunk of their visitors everyday, me, myself rarely open my FS account since they change friendster's layout and format (horrible). My bet is facebook i believed it will attract more people this year...

Sa tingin ko lang, mas maraming mangyayari sa social life ninyo kung NAGLALALABAS kayo imbes na nakatitig kayo sa computer ninyo buong araw! LOL!

Facebook is really a winner. I'm a self-confessed facebook addict. I rarely visit my friendster account now.
I love the drawings. Looks like cousins to the Gorillaz. ;-)
