Tweets of the Week (Election Edition): Who Celebs are Voting For

Published: May 4, 2010 - 11:16pm

Some local personalities prefer to keep their political bets private, like Paolo Bediones who does so in the spirit of impartiality as a TV5 news anchor, while others, like veteran kontrabida actress Cherie Gil, declare they are not voting. But as the election comes nearer, a growing number of celebrities bare their political colors loud and proud on Twitter, among other media.

(Celebrities are grouped by their political leanings which are arranged alphabetically by surname.)

kris-aquino

1. Kris Aquino, TV host and actress

Supports: Her brother, Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III

Tweeting tactic: From nationwide sorties to Baby James' booboo, Kris keeps the public updated on her Kuya Noy's campaign.

Sample tweet: "I saw endorsement tvc of Pinoy sports icon saying words to the effect na laban ng laban wala naman napatunayan. In politics, Noy has won 3 straight terms sa Congress & won almost 15 million votes sa Senatorial in 2007. How sad na he didn't think na in politics- knock out nga sya. In politics si Noy ang may napatunayan because Noy has never lost an election! Ika nga, undefeated ang record nya!"

ogie-alcasid

2. Ogie Alcasid, singer-songwriter

Supports: Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, Liberal Party senatorial candidate Rep. Risa Hontiveros and Siquijor congressman candidate Dingdong Avanzado

Tweeting tactic: Alcasid shares what he's doing to help his political bets, from plugging shows where Hontiveros is featured to shooting a music video for Aquino and campaigning in Siquijor for Avanzado.

Sample tweet: "I truly admire Congresswoman Risa Hontiveros! Let us vote her for senator!"

claudine-barretto

3. Claudine Barretto, actress

Supports: Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III

Tweeting tactic: Barretto updates her followers on her campaign moves for Noynoy.

Sample tweet: "And Santino was super kulit.got soo tired,we finishd at 2pm den went straight to Do Ad Campaign 4 Noynoy in Makati wid Kris,Mariel"

mariel-rodriguez

4. Mariel Rodriguez, TV host

Supports: Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III

Tweeting tactic: Rodriguez retweets Aquino campaigns like "Si Noynoy," Ogie Alcasid's video for Aquino, and its behind the scenes.

Sample tweet: "Go noy noy!!!!!!"

pepe-diokno

5. Pepe Diokno, director

Supports: Liberal Party presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III

Tweeting tactic: In December, Diokno declared Aquino as his presidential bet ("ok, i'm going to call the 2010 election. who i'm voting for president: noynoy aquino. who's going to win it: manny villar."). Diokno praises Aquino's platform and track record but also recognizes when another candidate's certain output is better than Aquino's ("Video: Artists 4 Gordon/Bayani --> http://bit.ly/9cd2uC. Bec its waaay better thn Noynoy's torch music vid. Tho I dont vote based on ads :)").

Sample tweet: "Some people flat out refuse to read Noynoy's platform. But he has the best platform among the candidates."

  • Lae May 10 2010 @ 02:27pm Report Abuse
I don't really get why people would vote for Gibo. Watch votebook, from his 50M net worth it reached 200M after being elected. And who votes a presidentiable who doesn't even support his vice- president??
  • Ces May 10 2010 @ 07:46am Report Abuse
In his three terms in Congress, Teodoro made glaring miscalculations that one veteran journalist describes as “autistic political decisions": first, he joined a move to impeach a popular Supreme Court chief justice; and second, he was among those pushing for a constitutional assembly in yet another attempt to keep the President in power.

These foreshadowed other political blunders that reveal what could be a shortage of street smarts in someone reputed to be the most intellectual among the presidential candidates.

I Vote GIBO/MAR.if noy wins...what will happen next? the country will be ran by the same people who were around cory before...he is not qualified. As a senator, he didn't even pass a bill. He may be clean but at this time we need a president who has a clear platform ...noynoy doesn't...I would even vote for gordon before Noy.
Pwede ba Kris.Yes, noy did win three straight terms in congress but its not just about winning, its about what you did, what bills you wrote (or if any of them passed, so far I know Aquino= O). And wow, it was so low for you to tell the anti-Noynoyans that you want to stab them. Its called democracy Kris, isnt that what your parents fought for and your brother is fighting for?
  • President G1BO! May 08 2010 @ 09:41pm Report Abuse
G1BO is the smartest and the most qualified candidate.

besides, bonus pa na world class ang first lady. maipagmmalaki, super ganda. :)

    my vote belongs to you.

I can't get over the fact that gibo can't seem to distance himself to the mahiwagang nunal. What if he wins, will gma be given special privileges?

As for Gordon, I don't want to vote for someone who delayed distribution of food after ondoy so that he can get a photo op with the us ambassador. Then when she couldn't make it, he decided not to go, in the meantime the victims got hungry.

I intended to vote Noynoy for president because of his sincerity, but after months of studying his character and qualities, i am convinced he is not yet ready for the job. I look for another candidate and found out Gibo, who stand out from the rest. His competence, character, integrity and being young makes me believe he is the man for the job. His exemplary integrity makes me believe that Gibo is not Gloria.

  • spalin May 06 2010 @ 09:47am Report Abuse
No one cares about who the immoral and "palengkera" Gutierrez family supports. As far as I'm concerned their support is a virtual "kiss of death".

    GO NOYNOY!!!

hit the nail on the head, zari. Patronage politics, turncoatism, nepotism, etc. are trademarks of a trapo, even in a different packaging. Really, really sorry to his fans, but not zeroing in on him. Unlike the other presidentiables who are wysiwyg, Gibo isn't Anakin na magaling and matalino who just went to the dark side; he's more of Bobba Fett
  • zari May 06 2010 @ 02:18am Report Abuse

anyway,i have a nagging feeling about Teodoro, that's why i can't bring myself to vote for him.:
    1. he is a long-time politician (di nga lang kilala) so the "argument" of some of these celebs na "hindi trapo" si Gibo is somehow misleading. magaling nga lang sya at matalino so he knows how to place himself during the campaign.
    4. i am also bothered by the fact that the arms cache owned by the Ampatuans apparently came from the Department of National Defense, which Teodoro headed din at that time.
    5. Teodoro may not be doing negative campaigning himself, but i am sure somebody else is doing it for him (para ma-maintain yung "clean image" nya). minsan, napapaisip ako that some of the NP vs LP black propaganda might have actually come from Lakas para pag-awayin ang two leading parties, and to be able to convert/shift these votes to Gibo.

anyway, im still undecided. but i am considering Gordon or Noynoy. salamat po.
  • igeramos May 05 2010 @ 11:39pm Report Abuse
Magmahalan nalang tayo. At the end of the day si Danding ang panalo. Tayo talo.

  • juan de la cruz 2 May 05 2010 @ 04:08pm Report Abuse
  • juan de la cruz May 05 2010 @ 04:04pm Report Abuse

  • Peeping Tomas May 05 2010 @ 03:05pm Report Abuse
..The GMA stigma for Gibo is really hard to ignore. He might be the right candidate but still not the righ time. I see him winning a Senatorial seat probably number one on 2013. And getting the presidential nod on 2016. He's just using 2010 as a big stepping stone.
  • hey May 05 2010 @ 02:34pm Report Abuse
lahat naman sila may kapintasan. Noynoy is not perfect. look at his track record.abnoy pa ata.sana we will vote not because of popularity or may kilalang pamilya sa pulitika. sana yung talgang kaya mag patakbo ng bansa sa susunod na 6 na taon or else ang pilipinas palubog na talaga.
  • ria May 05 2010 @ 02:31pm Report Abuse
everyone is has their opinions on who they would vote or whatever. lets just respect that. on the day of the election sana wag tayo magkamali kung hindi 94 million filipinos will suffer. Basta kami dito we really want GIbo or Gordon to win. sana isa sa kanila ang manalo.

I believe in tere and Tita Aida since I also like Noynoy. One more thing: Ruffa is supporting G1bo since her mother, Anabelle, said on her interview during the time when she and Kris were in a rift, that Don't vote for Noynoy because of her. Maybe that is the reason why she's suppoerting Gibo.
  • Tita Aida May 05 2010 @ 11:52am Report Abuse
    @ tere. Agree ako.

Willie is fighting with everybody on national TV. The latest is the fight with Joebert. I am no fan of Joebert but Willy threatening ABS-CBN management of his resignation and on national TV at that is going too far. Willy thinks of himself as a demigod of Philippine TV.

After the elections, si Willy at si Villarroyo ay pupulutin sa kangkungan although Willy will laugh all the way to the bank after having been paid a huge amount of talent fee for the campaign.
  • rieya May 05 2010 @ 10:58am Report Abuse
perhaps the longest list of tweets of the week EVER!! :) im for gordon or perlas (gibo is fine too but typical) and this would be better if all candidates (even the underdogs, yes!) have at least 1 supporter.

Gibo??? Galing at talino? Sorry guys, but too many question marks associated with this candidate. Easily 5 things going against him. # 1: Track record, or rather, dubious track record. (For the rest, e-mail me at sunfactors@yahoo.com Still undecided and in fact, seriously underwhelmed by the presidential wannabes.
