10 Best Pinoy-Style Fried Chicken in Metro Manila

Published: Jul 9, 2010 - 6:59am

3. MYRADEL RESTAURANT
1401 Paz Street corner San Gregorio Paco, Manila
Tel. no. 561-3485 and 563-7232
Open 8:30 a.m. to 12 midnight daily

Don't be fooled by the looks of its Fried Chicken (P150 for half). While the house specialty may appear plain--devoid of any coloring or extender--it nevertheless is cooked only upon order and served fresh off the pan, accompanied by a sweet, thick, brown sauce in a large bowl. It reportedly has become so popular among patrons that management claims to be the Master of Fried Chicken. Perhaps, that's why Myradel has been endorsed by a beauty titlist: Binibining Pilipinas 2004 Jonah Cabrera. In fact, her photo is featured on a promotional tarp that hangs inside the restaurant's modest digs.

4. THE ARISTOCRAT RESTAURANT
146 Jupiter cor.Saturn Sts., Bel-Air Village, Makati City. Tel. No. 895-0101

Though the restaurant is more famous for its Chicken Barbecue, its fried version, the Chicken Honey (P212 for half), should not be underestimated. Aristocrat's fried chicken has a hint of lemongrass to complement the almost-buttery taste of the chicken skin. The chicken meat is, as expected, nicely tender and moist. You can skip the Java sauce that's served on the side. The fowl is tasty enough.

I think the list needs to be updated soon.rnrnI think the list has to consider Country Chicken, Terry's, etc.rnrnI agree with some of the comments, parang mas masarap naman yata ang Chick n' Chips ng Shakey's or KFC than Jollibee. Jollibee's Chickenjoy is not a joy anymore.rnrnAsan ba yan Myradel na yan?

Pinoy-style Fried Chicken is the main topic here guys...Ibig sabihin Pinoy Taste & Pinoy in origin...I agree that SAVORY is on the Top of the List, coz it's really...really F@#%K# good. Still the same taste when I 1st tasted it more than 30yrs ago....Gravy.. Panalo!! I think Jollibee was included coz it has that Pinoy taste that every pinoy child in the Metro & provinces likes the Juiciness & crispiness....ika nga ng iba when they go to a Mc Do...."Miss may Chicken Joy kayo??"....

I also agree with Sherl Ang's - Shantung's is good (that's #42 in the menu).

I confess that I'm a chicken lover and I picked up a few places that I never thought I would be able to find what's considered to be the best chix in town. This means I gotta try them.rnrnBut what surprised me is the non-inclusion of Country Chicken. Their sauce is to die for too.

ang sarap ng KIPPS fried chicken!!! yung sa shakey's at mini stop din masarap kaso i don't think qualified yun as pinoy-style.

For me, the best pa rin ang Tropical Hut Spring fried chicken! Before, i hate the breast part sa ibang fried chicken or grilled one, whatever.. .But here in Tropical, malasang-malasa, talab ang sarap ng breast part of their spring chicken. Dapat pala may discount na'ko next time at binibida ko product n'yo TROPICAL HUT! he he hehe h.

Asus... drama naman, bakit may Jollibee! Napaka obvious binayaran ang author para sa article na to! Wag ka magdeny, may kakilala akong nagtratrabaho dyan. So cheap.

imo, the best fried chicken in the philippines is the crispy fried chicken of gloria maris (greenhills). the meat is so tender and juicy but the best part of the chicken is the skin as it tastes like a lechon's skin.
  • William Aug 12 2010 @ 10:31am Reply Report Abuse

why the heck is jollibee here? disgusting! all the others were of gourmet quality and not fastfood-style. i think that to include jollibee chicken in their ranks is a bit unfair for them, if not an insult. just my two-cents worth.

yung chief cook namin dating nag wowork daw sa max's kaya sya masarap kasi double cholesterol sya..yung ginagamit na oil eh yung galing sa oil ng baboy..o edi ang sarap talaga..okey lang yun minsan lang naman diba..

    pancake house's chicken!
  • Peter Aug 05 2010 @ 09:36am Reply Report Abuse

Yum! My vote goes to Max's fried chicken, a bit pricey nga lang. If you're from Laguna or will be visiting sometime soon, try to drop by Kamayan sa Palaisdaan in Bay, Laguna. Their fried chicken is one of the best I've tried, very affordable pa.
  • tinkiky Aug 05 2010 @ 02:07am Reply Report Abuse

i think max's is marinated in bagoong but the chicken is then steamed before it is friend so it's cooked (and sarap!) to the bones but still retains it's golden color. agree, mini stop chicken is really good. for something outside manila, chefoo restaurant at cavite city has the best fried chicken! :D

Savory is soooo Retro. Reminds me so much of my childhood and the late 80s to the early 90s when I used to live in Pasay. Thankfully they now have a branch in MOA. If I want to feel nostalgic, I just pop in an order the classic, moist FC with their special sauce. Sun Wah restaurant in Ronquillo near Avenida Rizal serves a mean fried chicken, cooked like Peking duck. Don't know if they're still operational. My dad would normally order "Tito" asado or bituka in Hokkien, usually served with thinly sliced green papaya achara.

I love Jollibee Chicken Joy! Pero in fairness, lumelevel na din sa kanila ang chicken ng Mini Stop! :)
  • Aya Jul 11 2010 @ 07:40am Reply Report Abuse

yeah... caleb is so right. Kipps has the most underrated chicken. and their gravy's so fine. Kipps chicken beats Jollibee's hands down, especially when eaten with their spanish rice.

Sincerity fried chicken is the best! Agree with Sheryl, Shantung's is yummy as well.
Hi Sungit, country chicken is roasted I think.

"But Ian, doesn't that defeat the purpose of writing a "Top 10" list? Something "subpar" has no place in a top 10 list. For a bottom 10 list, maybe."

Most resto reviews except the highest caliber 4-stars-at-The-New-York-Times will have SOMETHING to criticize. And since the subject matter they're dealing with -- fried chicken from hole in the wall spots -- You're expecting absolute perfection? Be a little realistic naman, please.

I vote for Mini Stop chicken. :-)

I say SR Pedro of Cebu as suggested by MarketMan.

Super love JT's Manukan (Joel Torre) even better than Mang Inasal.

On the side: I heard they say the secret ingredient of Max is they marinate their chicken in Milk?

the best Pinoy-style fried chicken is the "pre-war" fried chicken of cafe isabel (by gene gonzales)...my second best is the crispy chicken at mesa's grill..

YUM! My mouth is drooling right now. Just one thing I have to mention (and I hope I don't come across as being nitpicky)... but the first sentence for Sincerity Restaurant begins as: "Sincerity's Friend Chicken"... FRIEND? FRIEND? FRIEND? I don't want to eat my FRIENDS. I like them, but certainly not that way. :P LOL!
  • alan Jul 09 2010 @ 11:41am Reply Report Abuse

tanga ang p*&$! mang inasal! yeah mini stop johnny's chix is big and cheap!paired with tomato ketchup!

  • caleb Jul 09 2010 @ 11:01am Reply Report Abuse

...and yet SPOT.PH made another terrible conclusion on their top 10 food list around the metro.

do they even tried KIPPS fried chicken? Man, those chix are the most UNDERRATED fried chicken.

seriously it boggles the mind if they keep adding Jollibee stuffs on their lists.

@HELLO - the article is about top 10 pinoy-style fried chicken, so you won't find mang inasal in the list since it's cooked differently (inihaw/inasal)

"It shows readers that the writers aren't just about making puff pieces and will recognize something as subpar when its called for."

But Ian, doesn't that defeat the purpose of writing a "Top 10" list? Something "subpar" has no place in a top 10 list. For a bottom 10 list, maybe.

    yummy chicken; bad writing.
  • Ian Jul 09 2010 @ 10:42am Reply Report Abuse

This is a good feature because you covered some lesser-known restos and that you were critical when you thought it was necessary. It shows readers that the writers aren't just about making puff pieces and will recognize something as subpar when its called for.

Looking forward to trying these places.
