Top 10 Best Pinoy Pork Barbecue in Manila

Published: Aug 6, 2010 - 9:28am

Whether eaten for merienda, the main ulam, or as pulutan, the Pinoy pork barbecue is also a party staple in the Philippines. Recipes may vary for the well-loved skewered pork chunks, but when it comes to picking out the best grilled pork barbecue this side of town, its the tenderness, texture and flavor (depending on the  marinade) of the meat that counts. Here are SPOT.ph's prime porky picks, ranked from No. 10 to No. 1:

10. Three Sisters Restaurant
Address: Tiendesitas, Frontera Verde, C-5, Pasig City; East Capitol Drive, Brgy. Kapitolyo, Pasig City (631-4431)
Price: P35 per stick

A stick of Three Sisters' barbecue has hefty cuts of pork meat with little fat and the tender and juicy pork cuts skewered like a kebab has a smoky taste. Tocino lovers will love Three Sisters' barbecue because it's drenched in thick marinade, which is almost "tocino-like" in terms of sweetness.

9. Grill Queen
Address: 9 Narra Corner Tindalo Street, Project 3, Quezon City (433-0364); Maginhawa Street, Teacher's Village, Quezon City
Price: P17 per stick

A cheap thrill, Grill Queen's pork barbecue has thin slices of lean pork meat skewered on the stick with little fat. Their version has the expected smoky taste and is moderately tender and grilled just right so the edges are not too charred. This is perfect for pulutan or quick meal stops for the cash-strapped.

Have you tried Edna's Special Exotic Barbecue in Maalalahanin Teachers Village? Their marinade is far different from the delicious bbqs I've tasted. Not common Filipino, still close, but better than the traditional Filipino bbq. I was surprised they sell it at P12 only, maybe they're after the volume. I put my 2 thumbs up here! I will come back every so often. They deliver also thru text, 0921-7114860. Just try coz I loved it. I highly recommend this.

A well-kept secret for office workers in the area is the GArden Cafe on Tiara Oriental Hotel, Malugay Street, very near Ayala Avenue Extension.Their 22-peso bbq is unbeatable, Nice cut of pork, thin but wide slices, and you can order just a couple of sticks, because it is really a meal in itself. Many other items worth trying, just ask the friendly servers. I'm a regular...

Wow! Me Reyes na, me Aristocrat pa. Di ba parang pareho lang yun?

Tbh, wala pa akong natitikman na masarap na commercial bbq. They're always on the sweet side, cooked to death and fats trimmed. I always want that fat at the end of the stick. Also, I noticed that as soon as they gain popularity or open several branches, their quality dips. No one will ever beat your neighborhood bbq.
