Team Manila shares tourism poster designs to help spark inspiration for DOT campaign

In light of the recent controversy over the nixed Department of Tourism's (DOT) "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" campaign, top graphic design studio Team Manila has shared their take on possible tourism posters to help spark inspiration for DOT and other creative agencies.

The design house, which has been helping promote local culture through its patriotic designs on shirts and other merchandise since 2000, created the posters months ago. Team Manila  tweeted, "This tourism thing is like a social media EDSA. Tulong tulong para sa bayan."

Team Manila is encouraging everyone to send in their photos to the image bank uploaded on Flickr for the DOT to use for an improved tourism campaign. On Facebook, a page has been created for Netizens to submit their ideas to help sell the Philippines as a travel destination.

Last month, Team Manila also staged a travelling exhibit which kicked off at the SM Mall of Asia. The design studio also asked musician Carlos Castaño to write a song for a campaign to promote not only tourism but also the Filipinos' love for their own country--the result is the song, "Ain't No Other Place," composed and arranged with Kelvin Uy for the #Help DOT project.

@ mx,rnrnKuhang-kuha mo ang technique ng Team Manila!rnrnThe thing with Team Manila is that all their designs are just generated by machines. Wala bang marunong mag-drawing sa kanila? Iba pa rin ang isang design na gawang kamay. There's an artistry seen in drawings and paintings that cannot be captured by the computer. Team Manila's designs are edgy alright, but they are designs that can be replicated by anybody. No uniqueness, short on imagery, and no soul.

I heart TEAM MANILA..rnmaganda pero parang may kulang...kulang sa message na gustong iparating sa mag babasa o makakaita, baka pedeng kumuha ng ispiration from Fiestas in The Philippines like Pahiyas or the Vintas para mas maging vibrant at masayang tignan.

These designs are great. But they look generic. It's like a beautiful girl with no personality. If you remove "Philippines" from the designs and replace it with, let's say "Indonesia" or any other place or country, it is still just another great design with no personality.rnrnI would recommend looking at the identity of the Spanish tourism. Sa font pa lng, alam mong Spain na.

i love team manila, i love WOW philippines as a slogan, i think they should stick to it. it really works. i think it would be so much better if we do a more "pinoy" twist, the maranao design is great.

The designs of Team Manila are nice but we have to take into consideration that the ad materials should attract a large target market. I think Team Manila's designs are too youthful and too segmented for a certain type of market. And our beautiful country is more than just beaches. We have a unique east meets west sensibility that most other countries don't have. But still kudos to the team manila for taking an initiative instead of doing the blame game like everybody else.

These are nice and artistic -- theres a good use of typography and the style is unmistakably retro -- but these are only as good as posters that talk more about itself. They dont really communicate the beauty of what its supposed to promote, the Philippines, and even less tell what unique things the country has to offer. The visual is strong, but using a style more associated with other culture is just another reason that keeps it from being a subtantial, if not more fitting, good design.

those are kinda bland looking and oversaturated. rnrnbetter than dot's abysmal design, though.

it actually makes sense to hire team manila because their ideas are fresh - you don't overthink things in advertising and end up plagiarizing another logo just because you think its tried and tested. i'm not a tourism expert but tourists that come here are more on the backpacking adventurous type (observation) - the suggestions really cater to that group
