Back to top names Maria Ressa one of the sexiest women alive in the world, sexiest in the Philippines
Published on: Oct 14, 2010 - 9:30am

Screencap from, the online arm of the men's magazine Esquire, has named Maria Ressa, the outgoing head of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, as the sexiest woman alive in the Philippines. "Despite her size, (she is) fearless enough to write an eyewitness account of Al-Qaeda."

Veering away from beauty queens and the like--though "some sashes" made the selected the sexiest woman alive for every country (195 total) in the world. " sought to find exactly what we found in Minka Kelly, this year's Sexiest Woman Alive: something different, something beautiful, something that reveals a little bit more about who we are." After enlisting the help of Esquire's 17 international editions, the website came up with 195 women including "Presidents, human rights activists, models with legitimate hearts of gold and this one incredible actress from India (Aishwarya Rai)." added, "Our list is highly subjective and far from scientific--feel free to find your country and suggest alternatives."

In response, Ressa Tweeted, "Thank you to Esquire for an unorthodox choice. Brave new world."

I must say good for Maria.. and that I respect women of substance.... HOWEVER,rnrnI think the Esquire award for sexy is st*p*d... why should being \'beautiful - intellectually, spiritually\' or whatever be termed as \'sexy.\' Why is everything being \'sex-ed?\' Doesn\'t this just make women of substance equivalent to any bimbos who just strip?rnrnFeminists should be up in arms over this! Cannot believe all the struggles of feminists has come to this... rnrnBtw, I am male.

what esquire is trying to point out is that brain is a person's biggest sex organ.rnrnunfortunately, with the fairly recent developments---- maria ressa fumbled with her decision to badmouth noynoy in WSJ without admitting her share as a media personnel in that Hostage Fiasco.rnrnoh well, perhaps the basis was her coverage of al quaida and the recent events were disregarded since they have already completed the line up.rnrnasar mag rewrite! tamad ang esquire to check on the latest re their awardees.

The fact that it has Minka Kelly as the sexiest, that ranking does not mean anything.

When Woody Allen was voted by the Rolling Stone and Time magazines as the sexiest man in America sometime in the 70s, some people couldn't understand how he made the cut. Surprisingly, it was welcomed by the majority of the readers. Woody Allen was a living proof that intelligent people are better in the art of kama sutra than the intellectually challenged ones. In contrast, Akihiro Sato is so hot and nice to look at, but he is better seen than heard.rnrnMaria Ressa may not posses the "standard" sex siren template that a lot of people expect from a survey conducted by Esquire. She certainly made the cut because the men in Esquire saw something in her that a regular kanto boy wouldn't imagine or comprehend in a thousand years. rnrnWhat I don't understand is that we're so hung-up with looks. It seems "porma" is more important than substance. Our values are so shallow that we forgive fumbling beauty queens because after all, they're beautiful. We still live in a parochial, fantasy driven, Miss Barangay Kampupot environment, where we give premium to beauty more than intelligence.rnrnRessa has been validated by one of the finest, if not, the most influential men's magazine in both sides of the Atlantic. This is not People or Hello magazines. This is Esquire! How dare we question the magazine's integrity? rnrnI guess in this age of instant gratification, combined with mass-media's manipulation of taste and what is perceived as beautiful, no one really bothers with the finer points of post-coital conversation anymore. And that I think that is very tragic. rnrnBut then again, if Akihiro Sato posses the intelligence of Einstein, the eloquence and the voice of James Earl Jones, I would turn into an atheist because God is not fair. rnrnDarwin was right after all.

It's all relative. Depende lang 'yan sa tumitingin. Well, kung sexy siya sa paningin at pamantayan nila, good for her. Go! Kahit ilang beses palayasin, balik lang ng balik.
