SPOT.ph's Earth Day 2010 Events Guide

When: April 25, 12 noon to 7 p.m.
Where: Whitespace, 2314 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City

Come for regionally grown fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, wines, coffee beans, natural health and beauty products, and handmade crafts. Enjoy a hearty sampling of international fare by Margarita Forés' The Commissary and an exhibition of works at the adjacent Manila Contemporary Gallery.

Everyone is encouraged to bring reusable bags, and bottle caps, and magazines for recycling.

When: April 26-30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Pasig City Rainforest Park,   Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City

Watch Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" and GMA-7's Signos: "Babala sa Pagbabago ng Klima", and other documentaries with environmental themes spearheaded by the City Environmental Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Pasig City.

    I have been avoiding restaurants where they use plastic whatever... At the Blue Wave on Macapagal, Chow King uses plastic utensils even for dine in orders.. Same with the new Jollibee on Buendia's SM Teletech Building.. I hope, I really hope people join in my crusade... This may be a small thing.. but I hope you see the thrash they generate everyday..

    There's a place in Laguna (Los Banos?) where the whole town does not use plastic bags. As in against the law. If they can do it there, why can't we do it elsewhere?

    Yes. I guess the Philippines started segregating trash at home even before the Western world implemented it.

    Here, some households segregate their bote and dyaryo since time immemorial. It may not necessarily be for saving the Planet Earth but for extra money. Who cares? It is our small contribution to save the environment.

    Honestly, seeing that ubiquitous SM plastic bags drives me nuts. If Bloomingdales, which is way more high end than SM, can get rid of plastics in favor of their brown bag, I don't see any reason why SM can't follow. I am not picking on SM. It is just that anywhere I look, from the rivers to the esteros to our very own trash bin, I see this SM plastic bag lying around.

    Wow I didn't realize Earth Day is 40 years old. Akala ko bagong pakana lang yan. But unlike me, laspag na si Mother Earth.
