(SPOT.ph) Comedian and TV host Arnel Ignacio charged three cops with extortion yesterday after they demanded P100,000 from him on March 26 for supposedly driving a smuggled vehicle, reports ABS-CBN News.
Ignacio claimed PO3 Jose Levy Llagas, PO3 Neil Pono and PO1 Jose Lasala demanded the money because the license plate of his Porsche was not displayed. The comedian said the license plate was inside his car because the screws came loose after the Porsche was showcased in an exhibit. Ignacio added that he presented the documents showing the Porsche was registered under his name, but the three cops from the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) still threatened to impound his car.
The policemen supposedly accompanied Ignacio to his house to get the money. According to Ignacio, Lagas, Pono, and Lasala are now denying the incident but Ignacio said they did not know his house was equipped with CCTV. While nobody saw the actual transaction of the money, Ignacio said a lot of people saw the three policemen accompany him to his house.
PNP-HPG spokesperson Superintendent Edwin Butacan told GMA News Online that the three policemen have been relieved from their duties, stripped of their firearms and restricted to the HPG quarters. Butacan added that they are preparing administrative charges against them, which might result in a three-month suspension.
