PH's second saint, Pedro Calungsod, set to be canonized on October 21

Published: Feb 20, 2012 - 7:19am

Sun.Star Cebu reports that Pope Benedict XVI announced on Saturday, February 18, that Filipino Pedro Calungsod will be one of seven blessed or beatified persons to be canonized or recognized as saints on October 21, 2012 in Vatican City. Calungsod was beatified in 2000.

An Inquirer.net report noted: "Calungsod was born in 1655 in what was then the Diocese of Cebu which covered the islands of Panay and Mindanao, as well as the Pacific island of Guam. A lay catechist, he died at 17 in Guam while trying to defend his fellow mission worker—a Jesuit priest who is now known as Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitoreswhen natives attacked them on April 2, 1672."

haha natawa ko kay valdemort, wag nalang kasi magcomment kung wala naman laman ang utak...anyway, its good we have a newly recognized saint. Sa dami ng nangyayari to this seemingly god-forsaken country, we still have some saintly reasons to believe and be proud that such goodness exists (even centuries old). and no, I'm not saying this as a fanatically religious person :)

Wahaha. Wag po tayong mambara kung ang sinasabi naman natin ang walang kwenta. Wala na ngang kwenta, mali-mali pa. Wahaha ulit.

Valdemort, I am entitled to my st*p*d comment. By the way, the correct spelling of the name you want to use is "Voldemort." Plus, hindi "comments" kundi "comment." Singular lang. LOL.

Pang second saint lang? Akala ko ba madaming religious Pinoys? The weird thing is a lot of Catholics seem religious pero they don't really follow the rules of the religion. Case in point: The priests can preach na it's wrong to have sex before marriage pero so many kids were conceived via pre-marital sex. Plus, the priests aren't exactly helping the squatters. Sagipin nila at ipatira sa mga properties ng simbahan. Meanwhile, poor Pedro Calungsod, nadamay sa mission ng colonizer. He was just 17. Sayang.
