Philstar.com reports that according to Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares, "the agency is keeping a close watch on the late Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo, Jr." and are asking, "Who will pay the late lawmaker’s estate taxes?"
The report revealed that they expect the question to be answered by Iggy's live-in companion Grace Ibuna or his estranged wife Alicia Arroyo. Iggy, who the congressman of Negros Occidental's fifth district, died on January 26 in London while undergoing treatment for his liver ailment.
Philstar.com further quoted Henares, who said that the administrator or the heirs of Iggy's estate have 60 days from the time of his death to report the incident to the BIR and six months to pay the inheritance tax. Henares added that "the heirs or the designated administrator of Arroyo’s estate would not be able to withdraw from the deceased lawmaker’s bank accounts without clearance from the BIR."
