InterAksyon.com reports: "The government is preparing the possible mass evacuation of residents in Luzon as a contingency measure to avoid casualties in the planned rocket launch of North Korea between April 12 and 16."
The report quoted Allan Tabell—liaison officer of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC)—who told reporters that "about 300 to 400 municipalities in Luzon are told to stay on guard and prepare for evacuation if needed." He added: "We're looking at requiring local government units to set up evacuation areas. We're talking of practically the entire Luzon."
Despite the government's advisories, there are groups who think the authorities are just overreacting. The report also quoted Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr., who said in a statement: "OA doesn't even begin to describe it. While safety precautions against rocket debris are okay, the reaction of the Philippine government is more in line with the hype being stirred by the U.S.."
