Vilma Santos says she wants Dolphy to be named National Artist

Published: Apr 24, 2012 - 4:00am

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that award-winning actress and current Batangas Governor Vilma Santos said that Dolphy Quizon, who is known as the King of Comedy, "should be proclaimed National Artist even before she and her rival Nora Aunor are considered for the honor." Santos said that "the National Artist award should not be turned into a renewal of her rivalry between her and Aunor."

The report noted that while Santos "is thankful that her supporters are campaigning for her to be named National Artist, Santos said she would rather not comment too much on the issue for fear that the selection and nomination process may again become politicized."
