Two cops identified as prime suspects in January 25, 2011 Makati bus bombing

Published: May 24, 2012 - 4:00am

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that two police officersPolice Officer 3 (PO3) Jose Torralba and PO1 Arnold Mayohave been tagged as the prime suspects in the bombing of a Newman Goldliner bus last January 25, 2011 in Makati City. The report noted: "Five people died and 16 others were injured in the incident." The report also revealed that "Toralba and Mayo, who are members of the police Special Action Force (SAF), are bomb experts who have been to Basilan in previous assignments." The Torralba and Mayo have been arrested.

According to ABS-CBNNews.com, "The Southern Police District had produced artist sketches of the suspects, who were then singled out by witnesses from CCTV footage at a fastfood chain in Baclaran before the blast." The report quoted Metro Manila  police Director Allan Purisima, who said, "The identification of the bus driver at konduktor, positive identification. Nung nakita nila, tinuro agad nila, walang kagatol-gatol (They were positively identified by the bus driver and conductor. When the two saw them, they pointed them out right away, without hesitation)."

The report further revealed that "aside from the EDSA bombing, Toralba and Mayo are also being linked to the blast at a vacant lot in Makati City in January 23 this year. No one was injured in that incident." The report then pointed out: "The news has caught the PNP SAF by surprise. Its officials says they are willing to conduct a thorough investigation into their ranks."

Those two maverick policemen acted like pocket terrorists. And their Basilan exposure made them vulnerable to the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. Maybe the President should visit that island sometime.
