ABS-CBNNews.com reports that on Tuesday, May 22, "the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested Vimbi Flores Avilla, a man who had posed as Vice President Jejomar Binay so he could extort money from business tycoon Lucio Tan."

According to the report, Avilla sent a text message to Tan's office on May 22 and introduced himself as Binay. The report revealed: "Avilla asked Tanís office to deposit ₱300,000 to Banco de Oro savings account number 6570090622 as donation to the JC Binay Foundation. Tanís office then called Binayís daughter and executive assistant, Marita Angeline Binay-Alcantara, to inform her about the suspicious text. This prompted the vice presidentís daughter to call for the NBIís assistance, which led to Avilla's arrest."

The ones who go whole hog to steal from the nation's coffers surprisingly, are the ones rewarded, patted in the back (as if being such a big time crook equals a job well done), and oftentimes, elected into higher office. Rarely will they get to see jail time. Clearly, the poser in the article is not it. Stealing. It's more fun in the Philippines!
