ABS-CBNNews.com reports that on Tuesday, May 22, "the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested Vimbi Flores Avilla, a man who had posed as Vice President Jejomar Binay so he could extort money from business tycoon Lucio Tan."
According to the report, Avilla sent a text message to Tan's office on May 22 and introduced himself as Binay. The report revealed: "Avilla asked Tan’s office to deposit ₱300,000 to Banco de Oro savings account number 6570090622 as donation to the JC Binay Foundation. Tan’s office then called Binay’s daughter and executive assistant, Marita Angeline Binay-Alcantara, to inform her about the suspicious text. This prompted the vice president’s daughter to call for the NBI’s assistance, which led to Avilla's arrest."
