Disasters often give birth to unlikely heroes. Unfortunately, they can also bring out the kind of douchebags that flood emergency hotlines with prank calls.
Arianne Caryl Casas of Sun.Star Davao reports the city's Central 911 emergency hotline was congested with prank calls even as Typhoon Pablo ripped through Mindanao. This was disclosed at a press conference by Emmanuel Jaldon, officer-in-charge of Central 911. "They call kahit hindi emergency-related ang concerns," Jaldon said.
Davao City's Central 911 was able to handle the prank calls well, however, and "they were able to attend to more important calls and respond to serious reported mishaps," the report said.
