Supreme Court justices block CJ Sereno's unilateral move to set up regional office in Cebu

Published: Dec 5, 2012 - 10:20am

Associate justices of the Supreme Court have blocked the opening of a Regional Court Administrator Office in Cebu City saying it was improper to do so without majority approval from the court sitting en banc.

Edu Punay of the Philippine Star reports Administrative Matter No. 12-11-9-SC (Re: Opening of the Regional Trial Court Administration Office in Region 7) was promulgated on November 27 was supposedly ratified by the Supreme Court. Punay said "(a) source – an SC member – said no approval from the full court was given."

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is on sick leave. The Supreme Court, with Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio presiding, was expected to tackle the creation of the new judicial office in Cebu "which did not have approval from them through a majority vote."
