Anti-pork barrel protest march set for August 26

People just can’t take it anymore.

Tricia Aquino of InterAksyon.com reports that "support seems to be growing for nationwide anti-pork barrel protests called for August 26, Monday, with other demonstrations reportedly being planned for staging beyond Manila, including for Naga, Iloilo, Cebu, and Baguio."

The report noted that the phenomenon was "spurred by a simple Facebook invitation posted by ordinary citizens such as Peachy Rallonza-Bretaña, the event dubbed as the ’Million People March to Luneta’ has over the past days gained a life of its own, with no formal leadership." The report also pointed out: "More than 8,000 netizens have already confirmed their attendance at the "massive pocket picnic" which, according to the event’s Facebook page, starts at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 26."

Though Bretaña is credited with starting the group, she told InterAksyon.com, "I don’t have a group. (I’ve) been getting PMs (private messages) that people are stepping up and organizing on their own in different cities nationwide. Naga, Cebu, Iloilo. People are getting the message that they have their own voice. I just voiced out what they were feeling all along."
