VIDEO: Political hopefuls only think of the poor, Rich Kids complain

Published: Mar 19, 2010 - 2:44pm

The new viral video on the block: A skit from comedy show, Bubble Gang, where "Rich Kids," Ogie Alcasid, Michael V., Boy2 Quizon and Dennis Trillo, whine about the lack of a political candidate who thinks of the rich.

"It's always about para sa mahirap, tunay na mahirap, para sa inyo ako dahil ako'y galing sa mahirap. Dude, it's always about that. What the fudge?" Quizon says. "Rich people are voters too."

"Dapat talaga bigyan ng importance 'yung mga rich lalo na ngayong elections kasi tingnan mo, 'di naman mabibili 'yung boto natin. Ano, 500 pesos? Whoa! Whoa!" Alcasid says.

The Rich Kids go on to complain about the rising cost of gas ("'Yung Ferrari ko, hindi ko na madala, puro na lang Expedition"), an ignored request for a golden lane on the road and the lack of mass transportation for the wealthy.

"I think it's about time na magkaroon na talaga tayo ng kandidato para sa mayayaman. Iboboto ng mayayaman dahil ang mayaman 'di na nagpapayaman, true?" Michael V. says.

The Rich Kids resort to rallying right then and there with their drivers and yayas holding their placards. "Let's make baka, don't be takot!"

"Funny or insensitive?" I don't quite understand the question. It can be both, to be honest. It all depends on the context.

The reality is there is no trickle down economics. The rewards trickled down to the rich's bank accounts.

My sister Joey Salceda said, “My biggest frustration as a presidential adviser is that 34 quarters of uninterrupted expansion in the past nine years did little to reduce poverty and the number of poor people,” said Salceda. “Given our average economic growth in the last four decades, it would take 37 years for the poor to get out of poverty.”

On the other hand, Salceda, who has impeccable credentials in the financial markets, pointed out that profits of the country’s top 1,000 corporations jumped by 21 percent per year while the return on their equity or investments increased by 15 percent per year in the time that the Arroyo administration has been in power.

“Their total earnings amounted to P3.1 trillion of which P2.1 trillion were pocketed as dividends or earnings of the stockholders and only P1 trillion were re-invested,” which suggests a lack of confidence in the very domestic market that has richly rewarded these companies.

I hope politicians would think of marketing themselves to those who responsibly pay their TAXES. Make us feel our hard-earned money's worth.
  • Pekto Mar 19 2010 @ 06:11pm Report Abuse
This is always part of the platform of politicians -being pro poor. Sadly, many end up working for the rich folk's interests or worse, their personal interests. I miss President Ramos who did a lot to facilitate the conditions that brought prosperity not only to business owners but to the middle and working classes too. At that time, I could afford a lot of things and even ended up with savings even if I had not been making as much as I do today.

Michael V. says....OBVIOUSLY A CAMPAIGN LINE FOR MANNY VILLAR!...WHY SPEND BILLIONS TO BECOME PRESIDENT?...WHY NOT JUST DONATE THE BILLIONS TO THE POOR BY SETTING UP LIVELIHOOD PROJECTS AND/OR BUILD HOUSES FOR THE POOR?

I agree with slow news day. Of course either a satire or a parody.

Funny and insensitive are not really two opposing terms.
