Retail brand Freeway recently launched its Ramon Valera National Artist Collectors' Series at The Row in Glorietta 5, Makati.
The event, held on October 12, featured a one-day exhibit highlighting Valera's beautiful creations. Hosted by Tessa Prieto-Valdes, the event attracted personalities such as former First Lady Imelda Marcos, TV personality Tim Yap and Philippine Star columnist and blogger Cecile Van Straten. The launch also featured a '60s-themed fashion show of Freeway's modern takes on Valera's signature cuts and intricate beadwork.
Valera, who introduced the terno butterfly sleeves in the '40s, dressed up high-profile society ladies including Marcos, who was also one of Valera's closest friends. Designers Aureo Alonzo and Tente Wilwayco, National Museum of the Philippines curator Nick Legazpi Jr., and Valera's niece Peching Zulueta-Gomez also shared personal stories about the late artist.
