(SPOT.ph) The terno was the SONA outfit of choice as solons and their spouses attended President Noynoy Aquino's July 25 State of the Nation Address.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Paul Cabral designed atleast four legislative spouses' outfits and also created President Aquino's barong for the event. First Sister Kris Aquino chose an understated blush terno by Cary Santiago.

Kaye Tinga, wife of Taguig Rep. Sigfrido Tińga, wore a Pepito Albert creation, a Maria Clara with a kimono top draped on her shoulders paired with a black skirt. Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda R. Marcos donned a pink terno this year who told media that the dress was "picked out of her baul."

Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, clad in a pale pink Randy Ortiz terno, stood out in the crowd while Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, chose a Martin Bautista-designed terno.

Maybe we remember their gowns and barong than what PNOY said on his SONA.rnrnBut Im not hypocrite also, I have a second look to the beautiful faces and gowns of:rn1. Lani Mercado - Filipina beauty, simple and classyrn2. Lucy Torres - Super prettyrn3. Imelda Marcos - Walang Kupas after decadesrn

For me best gown in SONA 2011 is no other than Congresswoman Lani Mercado. She can carry herself well. Very simple and so elegant...

Manny is not your average member of congress. He is comfortable about who he is, goatee, bigote, rockstar hairstyle and tattoo, this guy should be in GQ magazine. Perfect fit barong, what can you say, this guy is cool. Well dressed my man ! ! !

There was also the cheapest MBenz 180 D, so cheap an average senior clerk in the 60's can afford.

During the time of Presidents Garcia and Macapagal, Mercedes Benz was a poor mans car in the Philippines. I remember the 190 D, 200 D, 210 D, 220 D and 300 D diesel were taxicabs in great old Manila. Toyopet, before it was rebranded Corolla was the cheapest, a higher level clerk could afford. What happened ? Ferdinand Marcos came and brought bad karma to this once thriving country. It's good to remember those good old Manila days.

SONA have always been a show me event. Tingting Cojuangco, who's been there...done that...seen that former congressional lady must have been laughing at the congressional wives for their st*p*d floor length gowns. I would say the best looking couple were the Angaras for their stylish perfect fitting outfits. Lani Mercado had the best gown, and the rests of the ladies need some coaching from the best dressed congressional lady of all time: Tingting Cojuangco.rnrnErap and Jinggoy's barong both had ill fitting sleeves which were too short and too tight. Binays barong had sleeves about half an inch too long, Bongbong Marcos' barong was a little to wide on the sleeves, Richard Gomez's barong looked like your average clerical every day outfit and Kiko Pangilinan looked more like an insurance salesman. The best look was Rep. Angara. In the old days, congressional members had Lincolns and Cadillacs. Mercedes Benz used to be taxicabs in the Philippines. rnrn

It was also reported that the Batasan Compound looked like a luxury car exchange with so many Mercedez Benzes, BMWs, Audis, Cadillac Escalades Chrysler 300S sporting No. 8 plates. If the government is serious about cleaning the government of corruption, ALL Senators and Members of the House of Representatives should be required to undergo lifestyle checks while in public office.rnrn
