Mike Arroyo wants Alicia Arroyo and Grace Ibuna to make peace, says, "For the sake of Iggy, they should not fight now"

Philstar.com reports that former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, the eldest brother of the late Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo, appealed to Iggy's legal wife Alicia "Aleli" Arroyo and his live-in partner Grace Ibuna to end their bickering. Mike made the appeal on Monday, February 6, as he "expressed alarm over the delays in the repatriation of the remains of Iggy."

Iggy died at a London hospital last January 26, but his remains are not yet in the Philippines. The report noted: "Aleli went to London last week with her lawyer, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, to retrieve her husband's remains but they came home empty-handed as the funeral parlor that has custody of his remains said the client they recognized was Ibuna." Ibuna had allegedly tapped the services of a London-based solicitor to allow her custody of the remains. In any case, as the report pointed out, Kapunan is "confident that the funeral parlor, Kenyon Funeral Directors, will abide by the decision of the Philippine embassy in London to give Aleli custody of Iggy's remains."

In the face of the two women's power struggle, Mike said: "Those women should make peace first so Iggy can rest in peace. For the sake of Iggy, they should not fight now."

For more on this story, log on to Philstar.com.

"I don't think we're playing around," says Grace Lee when asked if she sees her relationship with P-Noy "pushing through"

TV5's Aksyon Journalismo featured a segment where Gracee Lee was interviewed by veteran journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdez.

Perhaps, because Valentine's Day is near, news agencies have been covering the President Noynoy Aquino-Grace Lee story more and more. Indeed, at least a couple of major dailies have put the story on the front page—with huge pictures to boot.

Interaksyon.com certainly says as much in a recent article about the subject, noting: "Though Lee says she would rather have the President be the one to talk about the real score between them, the 29-year-old Korean national has been revealing bits of their dating life to media. She has, for example, said in past interviews that she thinks he's one of the most intelligent men she has met, that she's been introduced to two of the president's elder siblings, but not to the youngest presidential sister, Kris Aquino, and even that she's gotten the chance to cook Pnoy's favorite Korean dish, bulgogi, for him."

In the same article, Interaksyon.com also featured an Aksyon Journalismo segment, where Lee was interviewed by veteran journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdez. The fact that Aquino is 22 years older than Lee was brought up. Lee brushed it off, saying, "I was worried about that, too...and I still worry about it. But the more I get to know him, the less I fee the age difference." Cruz-Valdez then asked, "Bakit (Why)?" Lee revealed that it was because they could talk for hours and because he was a "very interesting" man. Lee even referred to Aquino as a "walking encyclopedia."

Then, as the segment ended, Cruz-Valdez asked Lee, "Do you see this really pushing through already?" To which Lee replied, "I don't think we're playing around. We're both not at the age to be playing around."

Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. "steps aside" in Corona impeachment trial; Will Rep. Rudy Fariñas take over the prosecution team?

Manila Standard Today reports that House Majority Leader Rep. Neptali Gonzales II confirmed that Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. "will not have a role and will not debate with the senator-judges on the merits of Article 3" in Chief Justice Renato Corona's impeachment trial. However, Gonzales clarified that Tupas "will remain the lead prosecutor for the entire eight articles of the trial."

The report noted: "The prosecutors for Article 3 said they did not assign any case to Tupas [anymore]. Four prosecutors will handle Article 3 with Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao as team leader. The prosecutors said they did not want Tupas to bungle their case after his dismal performance on Article 2."

According to the report, Tupas had "monopolized the argument on Article 2 asserting that he was the team leader." He was ready to argue with defense lead counsel retired Justice Serafin Cuevas, but then Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo "Rudy" Fariñas suddenly "edged him out" of the rostrum. Tupas decided to step aside. The report further revealed: "Spectators cheered when it was Fariñas who engaged the defense in a tit-for-tat."

A video clip taken in Cebu on Monday, February 6, when fake tsunami alerts sent people running. (YouTube video uploaded by user accarl)

Interaksyon.com reports that "in the wake of a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit off Negros island" on Monday (February 6), fake tsunami warnings—which were spread via text messages—caused Cebu City residents to panic. As people made a mad dash for higher ground, traffic got jammed.

The Interaksyon.com report noted: "However, the main seismic event or the two aftershocks felt within half an hour of the first tremor had not caused as much tumult as the false report of a tsunami already encroaching the city's downtown district at 2 p.m."

According to the report, order was restored "when patrol cars of the different police stations in the city, each with public address equipment, began going around and announcing that the tsunami reports were false."
