As part of the celebration of its 15th anniversary, Preview magazine launched the Emerging Fashion Talent Awards (PEFTA) on September 22 at the Alphaland rooftop in Makati. Refining its yearly search for the 10 Designers to Watch For, Preview partnered with some of the top fashion schools in the country for the PEFTA next year. Schools such as Slim’s Fashion and Arts School, SoFA Design Institute’s School of Fashion and the Arts and the University of the Philippines will nominate their graduating students for five of the 10 slots in the PEFTA. The chosen 10 will then present their special capsule collections to a panel of judges. Aside from learning from industry professionals, the winner will be able to take up a business management course sponsored by HSBC.
Fulfilling graduation requirements is a must for those who aspire to be part of the PEFTA, according to Preview Editor-in-Chief Pauline Juan. "The curriculum is there for a reason. What if this designer was discovered when he was just learning pattern making? That doesn’t mean he no longer needs to learn draping and all the other classes down the line. So this award not only supports young talent, it is also Preview’s way of supporting fashion education."
The September 22 launch also featured this year’s 10 Designers to Watch For: Enrico Carado, Vania Romoff, Jaz Cerezo, Nixon Marquez, Jona Ballaran, Camille Co, Stacy Rodriguez, Noelle Llave, Kenneth Chua and Michelline Syjuco. After presenting their works in a fashion show, the designers got to mingle with local fashion industry personalities. Spotted at the launch were model-artist Solenn Heusaff, presidential and celebrity stylist Liz Uy, TV-host-columnist Raymond Gutierrez, model-host Teresa Herrera, renowned fashion designers Rajo Laurel, Randy Ortiz, JC Buendia and Amina Aranaz-Alunan, and more.
