Film critic Alexis Tioseco, girlfriend shot dead in his QC home

Published: Sep 2, 2009 - 11:35am

Film critic Alexis Tioseco and his Slovenian girlfriend, film journalist Nika Bohinc, were shot by robbers last night, September 1, in his Quezon City home on Times Street, West Triangle, as reported by abs-cbnnews.com.

Their household helper identified as Criselda, was said to have let three gunmen inside the couple's house at around 10 p.m. According to the police, one of the gunmen shot the couple as they entered the house. The robbers left with jewelry and a laptop, and drove away in the couple's white Ford Lynx with Criselda. The vehicle was recovered by the police at West Avenue this morning at 4 a.m.

Tioseco was a faculty member of the arts department of the University of the Asia and the Pacific and was a regular contributor for several magazines and top newspapers, including the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star.

Tioseco, who met Bohinc on a trip to Slovenia, wrote in his column, "it is important for people to write about their own cinemas and not let it be left to those outside to dictate what matters."

What a senseless death for a priceless person. He could have been more help to the film industry. Stupid, lowlife, heartless robbers. They could have just taken the jewelry and ran but take two lives??? Come on. Barbaric. May they rot in hell.

Rest in peace Alexis and Nika.

I am just someone who happened to turn on the TV and there was Cheche Lazaro with Caparas, Alexis Tioseco and Butch Dalisay (I think it was) discussing the national artist awards on TV recently. I was immediately struck by Mr. Tioseco's clarity of thought and speech, and also by his elegant persona. A good critic is a rarity in the Philippines, and I felt wow how fortunate for art and audience to have here in our midst a deeply perceptive critic in Mr. Tioseco, a great loss specially in the realm of cinema.

I assisted Alexis Tioseco a few years back when he purchased a ticket to Singapore. I said he looked like my half-Belgian friend. I remember he said "Well actually I'm Filipino/Chilean". He said his mother is from Chile. I have never met anyone from Chile before or someone with Chilean blood that's why I never forgot that. Used to see him in film festivals and one time I said to a friend that I remember him because he's the half-Chilean guy. Turns out he's a film critic. I've always wanted to approach him, say hi and ask if he remembers me. Yesterday I learned he and his girlfriend were murdered. I don't really know what to say on situations like these.

Alexis and Nika, may they rest in peace.

Alexis a.k.a Moroune. That's my nick for him during our high school days. The last time we talked you promised me that someday we'll see each other soon. I didn't expect I will be seeing you in your wake bed. Rest in peace my friend, my brother

He's such a great man and a great professor. One very inspiring film enthusiast indeed. RIP Sir Tioseco... You will be missed... I wanna kick that Criselda b*tch's ass! Hope you experience what you made these innocent people experience...

Im so sad and greatly affected by this whole thing. Truly shocking....

    To L Word:

That was also the first thing that came in my mind when I read the PDI headline this morning. A far-out proposition, yes, but it could happen. Think about how crooked CJC's mind is.

(And I hate to think how this crime can very much be made into another "vital" Filipino movie directed by CJC, in line with his previous "masterpieces".)

Condolence po uli kay sir Alexis, and his girlfriend. I'm praying for their souls.

Kawalan sa Pilipinas na mawalan na naman ng matalinong mamamayan na maaari sanang magtaguyod ng nasyonalismo sa mga larangang kailngan nito, tulad na nga lamang sa cinema.

Concolences sir. I would have very much wanted to meet you. A great loss indeed.

alexis and I go way back in college. Even before he became a film critic. We used to spend hours by quick pic store (in front of UAP) listening and talking about hiphop all day. I will always remember Eggy..

if i trust my reliable hunch right, robbery is just a decoy. someone must have taken it personally against Alexis. For the past weeks, he was pretty much vocal in the national artist brouhaha. youll never know what these people are capable of... especially those shades este, that shadey character involved. again, just a hunch.

Paalam Alexis. Davao filmmakers will always remember you.

May justice be served in this lifetime!

    Sir,
May you rest in peace, this is such a big loss for everyone because you are such a great person who is humble enough not to flaunt wisdom but is kind enough to share.

Thank you! Will continue to pray for justice!
You will forever be my crush

shorty was alexis' nickname for me, he was new in school and we instantly became friends, talking on the phone and watching concerts together...he liked giving me cds of his favorite music so i too can love them as much as he does...he would also lend me movies to watch, still trying to influence me to like them too...but we drifted apart in college, and even though we haven't seen each other in 2 years, his memories are still with me and i cherish him as one of my dearest friends...this is a total shock to me, and i am writing this to let eggy know that he is one of my deepest friends and everything wouldn't be the same without him...myy deepest condolences to his family...love you eggy, rest in peace....

I just saw this guy on ANC like a month ago! I can't believe this...He seemed like a really cool guy.
  • L Word Sep 02 2009 @ 06:23pm Report Abuse
Honestly, doesn\\\\\\\'t sound like a robbery. Why make it a murder when all you want is money, and why leave a witness (the other maid) alive? Someone must really have it for this person. I watched him on an ANC show with that Caparas director being pissed off because of his youth.
