Greenbelt 5 shoppers panicked and sought cover inside restaurants and even a restroom for about two hours during the Rolex store holdup, shootout and robber chase that started around noon today, according to this report from 24 Oras.

According to this report from 24 Oras, six armed and hooded men in bomb squad uniforms entered the Greenbelt 5 entrance nearest the Greenbelt Chapel, forcibly dragged the security guard manning the doors and headed straight to the Rolex store to rob it, even shooting at the glass showcases housing the expensive watches. One of the armed men was killed in a shootout that ensued when the Makati PNP and mall security men arrived at the scene.

You can't even trust law enforcers. I'll bet most members of those robbers are either law enforcers or former law enforcers. Nowadays, you can't even trust cops and soldiers. Most of them are not even qualified to become one. I shiver whenever I see a uniformed police, it's like they're going to hulidap or extort me.

I agree with pinksheep. I don't think letting citizens carry guns is a good idea. What we need is better-trained police and security personnel. How on earth did the culprits escape through the basement parking area? Either the policemen were too slow in chasing them, or there was kind of an inside job. Someone must have helped them escape. Just a thought.

Yang baril, minsan lang yan nagagamit laban sa magnanakaw. Research shows that private citizens end up using their guns at the heat of the moment against people they know-- spouses, children, neighbors, friends. And let's learn from Columbine, shall we? What if your kids get your guns, play with it, or worse, shoot up people they hate?

Don't blame the guards, they are just for petty thieves and pickpockets.

Could you imagine malls hiring military trained, highly skilled guards? nobody might go in the mall if they see in the entrance a muscularly built, highly weaponized personnel. Even in well-developed countries they don't hire guards, they only have CCTV. But they have a well-trained policemen with high tech surveillance equipment and advanced procedures in follow-ups.

It is the police that we should count on. But sad to say..... (except the 2 brave taguig policemen, job well done to you both.)

    >>> In your case, the guns are all right since you did not carry them out of your house. I was throwing my eggs at people who want to be able to carry guns everywhere they go. That is a sure sign of trouble.

there's nothing wrong with citizens arming themselves...i for 1 was almost a victim of "akyat bahay gang" a few years back, guns are very dangerous. but it could save lifes when you least expect it. For me, it saved me, my wife and my 2 daughters lifes. 10 mins of terror. took the police 30-40 mins to arrive at my house. try imagining some robbers broke into your house, then look at the clock for 30-40 mins. imagine the things they can do to you and your family.

salute to those officers who engage with the robbers too!!!

as for the mall guards, they are not even trained to deal with these kinds of situations. and i doubt that they have the time to even practice firing their weapons.

the criminals are well equiped, their target was very well organized. so, in my opinion its not just a simple case.

How can the police screen people to be allowed to carry guns?<---- how did the pnp screen those applicants for joining the police? i am just pointing out that are will be bad eggs around us. Some, but not all.

There is a reason why there exists such entities as the police and the military, and that is to protect the citizens<----- imagine my case, what if i have no firearm to protect my family that night? 30-40 mins arrival of the pnp to my house can lead to a different outcome.

    just my thoughts.

Oh, I almost forgot. A snappy SALUTE to the two Philippine National Police Officers who engaged the robbers in a shootout. Mabuhay po kayo!

All those lame guards posted at Ayala Center/Greenbelt are nothing but life-sized ornaments. Their purpose is just to give a sense of security to the shoppers, albeit false. I don't think they are even armed. I'm sure the first thing they did when the gunshots rang out was to waive their metal detectors like magic wands to drive the "evil spirits" away! LOL

Im a PROGun, so I suggest that all gun owners should start shooting people at the first sign of trouble.

And I think the guards are not involved. WIther thy do this for fun or someone wanted more election funds. Think about it.

Scratch that. Stupid progun people who type in ALLCAPS.
  • gecko Oct 20 2009 @ 04:15pm Report Abuse
And who said people carrying guns that are not criminals will not lose the nerve and shoot someone innocent? Remember Rolito Go? How can the police screen people to be allowed to carry guns? Psychological tests always fail, and humans have a capacity to snap.

There is a reason why there exists such entities as the police and the military, and that is to protect the citizens.

Want people to be allowed to carry their own guns? Fine. Just imagine what would have happened if all of you progun people were there in Greenbelt 5 when the shootout happened. Baka hindi lang isa ang patay.

    Stupid progun people.

    1. Have police or investigators checked the identity of the robber that was shot and still inside the rolex store?
    2. Have they checked his pocket for mobile phone? I
    3. Have they checked calls and text messages sent and received from October 17 to 18? His phone directory?
