Senators Noynoy Aquino and Manny Villar may lead the presidential surveys of Social Weather Stations and Issues and Advocacy Center, but former Defense Sec. Gibo Teodoro has the vote of the Iskolar ng Bayan, as shown in the mock polls conducted by the Alpha Sigma fraternity in the University of the Philippines Diliman last week.
One out of four, or precisely 1,669 of 6,604, student participants in the December 8 to 11 poll said they would vote for Teodoro. Aquino is not far behind with 1,481 votes, while Villar is a distant third with 577 votes.
"I think that shows that students are thinking out of the box, that even if President Macapagal-Arroyo is unpopular, it does not rub off on Gibo. There's no bandwagon effect," fraternity spokesperson Lauryel Castillo told Inquirer.net. The mock polls did not include the students' reasons for choosing a candidate but Castillo said Teodoro's "well thought" answers in the presidential forums held in schools might have convinced the students.

As for poll favorite Aquino's second place finish, fraternity member Mark Aguimatang says, "Maybe because he is perceived to be trying to get the sympathy votes; the Hacienda Luisita issue is also not helping him."
The previous Alpha Sigma mock polls conducted from September 8 to 15, before the filing of candidacy, was dominated by Sen. Chiz Escudero who gave up his presidential bid on October 28. Escudero got 690 votes, Villar 365, Aquino 278, Sen. Jamby Madrigal 258 and Sen. Mar Roxas 251, reports ABS-CBN News.
The mock poll aims to spread awareness of the importance of voting, fraternity spokesperson Simon Salinas told ABS-CBN News in September.

go Gibo! i hope he wins! magaling talaga sya!
http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=533295&publicationSubCategoryId=64 Teodoro acknowledges his debt of gratitude to GMA even if we all know that to be associated with her is to suffer the kiss of death. He even vowed to continue the “good†policies of the GMA regime and pursue Charter Change which reinforces people’s perception that he will simply be a GMA clone or a facilitator of a GMA resurrection under a parliamentary system. Teodoro is projecting himself as the epitome of galing at talino (competence and talent). Teodoro runs a clever campaign by sounding more of a reformist than the real reformist — the dominant presidential candidate, Senator Noynoy Aquino — when in truth and by his own admission he plans to pursue the policies of GMA, including the distrusted Charter Change. Undeniably bright and articulate — like Marcos — Teodoro mesmerizes some people. They are attracted to his promises of change and reform despite his plans to pursue GMA policies and call for Charter Change. Sweet nothings from the mouths of skillful gigolos have succeeded in separating innocent virgins from their precious hymens. But there are questions hounding Gilbert Teodoro that must be asked if we are to concede that indeed he is competent and talented. Here are a few which pertain to recent developments. 1. How come when he was still National Defense Secretary, Teodoro never raised the alarm about private armies, especially the atrocities that were happening in Maguindanao? Does this not make him equally accountable for the Maguindanao massacre as GMA who coddled and nurtured the Ampatuans, the prime suspects behind the heinous crimes? 2. How come Teodoro never acted on the weapons hoard of the Ampatuans when in fact these were mostly supplied by the military which was under him? 3. How come a bar topnotcher like Teodoro was willing to give GMA the benefit of the doubt on the imposition of PP 1959 (Maguindanao martial law) when former Supreme Court Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban asserts that the Constitutional violations of PP 1959 are very glaring and are easily spotted by a freshman law student? 4. How come Teodoro failed to anticipate the Ondoy devastation (and properly react) when we all knew that Climate Change was triggering more rainfall and worse floods? 5. How come Teodoro panders to the US “Terror†line, the predicate for pursuing the big US agenda in Mindanao? In two presidential debates, Teodoro asserted that he will prioritize the creation of a bigger military and police force. Now, that is as way off from seeing the real solutions to our biggest national security and peace and order problems as the old assessment of navigators that the world was flat. Going by that thinking, Teodoro will forever be engaged in expanding our military and police because he failed to recognize that the real solution was to address poverty and the lack of social justice by bridging the Information, Education, Opportunity and Wealth Gaps in our society. Going by Teodoro’s solution, money that should go for health, education and providing livelihood will instead go to fund a forever increasing military and police force. Going by Teodoro’s solution of a bigger military and police force, the result will be a garrison state which history tells us never solved a social justice problem. Because military and police expansion prevented the addressing of the health, education, livelihood problems, expect the insurgency and rebellions to prosper just as it did during the Marcos era. Just as Marcos succeeded Diosdado Macapagal, if you know what is good for you — Teodoro should not be allowed to succeed Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
@Open your Eyes You got very valid questions regarding Gibo's performance. But I'm just very curious, WHO IS YOUR CANDIDATE ?

"Open your eyes" raised valid questions. I'd like to hear answers from Gibo supporters. Please present supporting data. Try not to speculate. Attacking "Open your eyes" and demanding from him who his preferred candidate is does not answer any of the questions he presented. So stop the ad hominem and just kindly answer the questions.
They're not my questions, but from the column of William Esposo from the link I put on top http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=533295&publicationSubCategoryId=64
@Open your Eyes Everybody knows that Billy Esposo is rooting for Noynoy Aquino because " he is not corrupt" forgetting the depredations of "KAMAG-ANAK INCORPORATED." The electorate should be through with the Aquinos, Cojuangcos,Estradas, etc.... They had their chance. Let's give the New Bloods theirs. I'm not referring to traditional politicians, but to the kick-ass leadership of the dynamic duo GORDON-FERNANDO. They have a solid track record...
Mga iskolar ng bayan ano ba yan! BAKIT GIBO@!!!1
Ay, ako rin, ayoko kay Aquino. First, wala siyang known accomplishments. Second, sa interview sa kanya sa Probe Team, obvious na trapo na siya - couldn't even answer the Hacienda Luisita question, as in pinaikot-ikot niya yung sagot niya. Third, he keeps bringing up his dad and mom. They're dead. They're not you, Noy. Be your own man. So di kita iboboto kasi ang tanda mo na and you still can't get out of your parents' shadow.
And, gusto ko lang i-point out: Nung Maguindanao massacre, sa lahat ng mga kandidato, iisa lang ang naglakas loob pumunta sa Maguindanao--si Gibo. Yun lang.
This only means that U.P. students can be stupid as well.
It blew my mind. Mga iskolar, why Gibo??? Gibo is a smooth talker but track record shows nothing. Or baka hindi lang ako aware. So ano nga ba ang nagawa ni Gibo?
@ Openyoueyes? how can someone anticipate a disaster such as Ondoy, even with all these climate change concerns? So you are saying that we need to anticipate an intensity 12 earthquake because the plates underneath the earth are moving and would cause such devastations.
I will vote for someone who addresses our need for the following. Effective educational reform that will make a quality education available to all Filipinos everywhere. Someone who will provide peace and order through effective law enforcement. Someone who will guarantee justice to all Filipinos regardless of social standing. Someone who will bring more investment to the country to provide jobs through better infrastructure. Someone who can bring all these to all provinces to decongest our cities. I will not vote for Noynoy. Noynoy is not Ninoy. Noynoy is not Cory. It has been 5 years since 14 people were coldly and violently murdered outside their gate. He has blood on his hands.
OPEN YOUR EYES ARTICLE/DECEMBER 19,2009 I CAN SENSE FEAR DUDE... q1: did the ampatuans reined just recently???blame aquino, ramos, estrada and arroyo. argument for q2: i don't beliv that these weapons were exclusively acquired by the ampatuans during the tenure of gibo as dnd sec. but that is avalid quetion... argument for q3: that was the opinion of one man. an expert opinion. but an opinion. perhaps you have not set your foot in mindanao... you should have tried during the matial law. para alam mo na popular ito (pp1959) d2. argument for q2: maybe you were tuned in to hbo when the ondoy and pepeng striked...not the u are ignorant of the devastation,it just seem that you never saw teodoro giving orders for pre-emptive evac. with the poverty of PAGASA to forcast how much rain a typhoon brings and the strength of the two typhoons, natural lang na maraming damages.ano ba??? bakit sinisi natin ang isang taong nagpagod. for Q5. i have little information on the matter...i'll comment latter.
the issue with gibo is not his position on PD 1959 because presumedly officials keeping a watch on the situation in maguindanao know what to do better than artemio panganiban, i presume that we have people running things in the palace that have more common sense if not the concern for legalese of a first year law stude. the issue with gibo is not even charter change, i doubt any self respecting pol, which is what gibo is, would hand power back to GMA once he (gibo) becomes president. now if it were noli then its a different thing. the issue with gibo is definitely not his toe-ing the US line. let's face it is there any of the candidates who is willing to stand up to any american demand once they become president. THE ONLY ISSUE WITH GIBO IS HE IS A THIEF. pays only in cash for work done and does not require a receipt because he doesnt want the source of his funds known. PAREHO SILA NG ASAWA NIyA.magaling mag-ingles pero mga kawatan pa ren. ...sabagay lahat naman
Answer to no. 1: If you are holding Teodoro accountable for the unthinkable violence in Maguindanao, you should hold the legislature and the whole government accountable too for not having foreseen that their ARMM law would lead to such level of violence. Why doesn't the government realize, we need professional military to keep peace in remote provinces rather than doing our peace and order policy on a cheap, by arming civilians who are easily manipulated by warlords. Teodoro was only Defense Chief for two years, no defense minister could have anticipated such violence, Teodoro should not carry all the burden of explaining such a failed policy, the systemic ills of our country are pretty obvious here and it is only Gibo who gives a concrete policy proposal on how these systemic ills could be cured. #2 question: Gibo was just executing standard policy of the government, this was part of the law enacted by the legislature, right? #3: the imposition of martial was necessary to bring the culprits to justice, it was a decisive action on the part of the government. #4: Budget constraints and the rarity of such a hurricane, there was no certainty that such strong calamity would hit metro manila. Given the constraints, our country managed quite well dealing with Ondoy, compared to how the U.S. dealt with Katrina (this is an objective assessment of U.N. agencies). #5: It is not pandering, terrorism is part of life in the Philippines, globalization has also globalized terror networks. We are susceptible to terrorist attacks just like in Bali and other countries. Social justice issues have never been solved by low military budgets and under-funded police force. This is why we have corruption in the military and in our police system, we need to raise the pay for our law enforcers. Lawlessness in our country has inhibited investors from investing in our country. Our insurgency problems should be dealt with by a professional military, true, social justice is important, but without economic development, these issue will not be solved and economic development is only possible if we have peace in our land. I agree with Teodoro that despite our enormous problems in peace and order, we are the only country with a very low military budget. Japan, a country that is forbidden to have a strong military spends quite a lot on their military forces. And to think that it is a safe country, there is police presence everywhere, even in safe and small city like Kyoto. Why do we delude ourselves that social justice could only be served by having a cheap peace and order policy? With the establishment of law and order comes economic development which will alleviate social justice issues. May I also add that we need population control policy if we want true economic development. I will vote for Teodoro because he is the only visionary leader among all the presidential candidates, he offers concrete and clear policies for governance and I agree with all of his visionary policies. I think you are exaggerating in saying that the police and military forces will be forever expanding, at present, there is a need to increase the budget for military without jeopardy to education and health policies.
SOMEONE CAN TRULY LEAD OTHERS, IF HE/SHE IS ABLE TO LEAD/MASTER(yong hindi alipin ng kanyang pansiriling isip, emotion at appetites) HIMSELF/HERSELF. SINO KAYA SA KANILA ANG MAY RECORD NITO SA SARILING BUHAY? TO BE FAIR SA LAHAT, IT IS GOOD TO KNOW THE "LEADERSHIP WITHIN" SA LAHAT NG MGA PRESIDENTIABLES! A WEAK LEADER MAY NOT DO CORRUPTION,BUT NEITHER HE/SHE BE ABLE TO CONTROL OR ERADICATE IT.
Here's my rough analysis on what kind of voters would vote to their candiadate. I could be wrong anyway: Erap- hard headed people, old people who idolize him in the 60's and 70's. Manny Villar- dependent people. Noynoy - Emotional, vindictive people. Eddie Villanueva - fanatic people. Gordon -extremely idealistic people Gibo - proactive, intelligent people who want progress.
