Ang Panday wins MMFF Best Picture, 6 awards; Bong Revilla is Best Actor

Published: Dec 29, 2009 - 11:28am

One of the top grossers of the two-week Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) that earned 16.9 million nationwide on its first day, Ang Panday was named Best Picture in the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal on December 28, reports PEP.ph.

Ang Panday bagged six other major awards: Best Actor for Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., Best Supporting Actor for Phillip Salvador, Best Child Performer for Robert "Buboy" Villar, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design and Best Theme Song.

"We have somehow perfected the use of special effects… We want to show the whole world that Filipinos can make films like  Harry Potter or  Lord of the Rings," Revilla, who said only  one Hollywood movie per month should be screened in the Philippines, told  Manila Bulletin.

Iza Calzado, who played the movie hero Flavio's (Revilla) damsel in distress, said on Twitter that she's "so happy!!!" with Ang Panday's success.

I agree with Haydee. Bong Revilla and Philip Salvador winning best actor and best supporting actor really negates the other awards. this just kills the credibility of the MMFF. Nakakatawa talaga. Pero sige Direk Mac, good try.

Pwedeng magpractice muna tayo ng konti sa effects bago ipagpilitan na parang hollywood na tayo. Sinong niloko nyo? Nakakita lang kayo ng animation tuwang tuwa na kayo. Di naman maganda ang pagkagawa.

At par with Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? ROFLMAS!!! WTF? Bong must be dreaming!!! Susme! Yang pagkakapanalo niya ng Best Actor award ang katibayan na imbes na forward ang film industry, backwards na masyado. Grabe - Best Actor! Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

The effects look like something that my high school classmate made for Computer class. Seriously. It was schwarbage. It's just that the films it were up against were bunghole-ish films like Wapakman (Wat da pak Pacman??).

Bong are you ok!? One Hollywood movie per month? People would probably stop going to the movies. Are you sane?

Though I haven't seen the movie, I may just have to agree with HELLO. Ang Panday may have only been a DECENT movie compared to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. And hello Bong, those stories were NEW to us Pinoys, kaya nga click na click satin eh. Yan eh kung naisip mo yon! Napakita na ni FPJ ang lahat lahat ng igaganda ng Panday story. You just got away with your "SFX" You could have used your money on a totally different Pinoy epic story. Then you could have really awed us all and make us even cheer with you! And is it real? Best actor???

Alam mo Bong, walang kwenta ang special effects kung hindi maganda ang script at hindi kayo marunong umarte. Marami ring ganyan sa Hollywood di ba? Ang tawag dun ay "flops." PWEDE RING "OVERCOMPENSATING."

Perfected? Hello! DECENT might be the right word

I am not insulting the talents of pinoys but it is VERY IMPOSIBLE for a pinoy film with full of cgi effects to go at par with foreign films

its not the talent not the creativity but its purely economics!

a local producer would need to spend hundreds of millions of dollars equal to multi billion peso just to produce a film equal to hollywood cgi perfection... and where the heck would they market it? the poor philippines -- who only loved teen aged themed drama flicks hehehehe

so dont expect much on the future of pinoy cgi films.. unless we experience the same miracle that happens to South Korea.. with the arrival of the korean wave! hehehehe

I am OK for Panday as Best Picture althougt it failed my expectations big time after watching the film... maybe a credits to its technical awards might be the reason for getting the biggest award for the night

But Bong for Best Actor? hello! he is the worst panday ever and the worst choice of casting for this film! he looks pathetic on the way he portray his first lost - he is a reluctant coward hero - FPJ would be mad hahahahaha

i feel sorry to GMA films since they have nothing to do but to accept him for the lead role since after all he is financing 50% of the film

Dingdong Dantes would be great or maybe Derek Ramsey if he is just a kapuso hehehehe
