The Philippines is "Pedo Heaven," "Golddigger Hotspot," says Encyclopedia Dramatica
Published on: Jan 13, 2010 - 5:13pm

Encyclopedia Dramatica, a well-known free-post website that satirizes common encyclopedia topics, pop culture trends, and current events, describes the Philippines as 'Pedo Heaven,' since it has become "a hotspot for gold diggers and pedophilia."

The website makes light of the Philippines' history, language, religion, economy, and other aspects that are normally covered in Wikipedia. In history, for example, Lapu-Lapu and other original Filipino settlers were called "friendly ape species," which were so magnetized by the glamor of Magellan. It also downplayed the Bataan Death March as a simple 100-lap jog around the Bataan High School track.

Other notable jabs at Filipinos include hobbies which were listed as "eating dogs, having sexual intercourse with dogs, acting like black people, working overseas, and having sex while playing DOTA–a multiplayer videogame that is usually played in internet shops."

Aside from being depicted as a nation swarming with gangster wannabes, the webpage also described the economy as one that promotes underage sex tourism. It stated that the Philippines has several child sex camps where "innocent men" are "forced" to copulate with underaged girls and are "made" to pay right after.

Although intentionally mean, some of the entries actually hold a semblance truth. In religion, for example, it depicts the country as a generally Catholic nation which prioritizes Christmas and the observance of the Lenten season. It gives the yearly crucifixion in Pampanga as an example of some of the extremes we Filipinos take as an act of pilgrimage.

The site also includes some notable defamatory photos and clips which have spurred past controversy. One clip, for example, is of Teri Hatcher's dialogue in Desperate Housewives, where her character questions the Filipino health care system.

The Philippines isn't the only country with a scathing entry though. In fact, the site has hundreds of not-so-flattering "wikis" ripped off the pages of Wikipedia. USA has been called the "Jewnited States of Americunts," while Germany has been reduced to a flashing swastika, mocking the Nazi reign. But since we Filipinos are known to both laugh at ourselves and get pikon when offended, SPOT.ph wants to know: What's your take on this?

One tweet and you got yourself an ED article, Angel Locsin. BAD MOVE. But that's just a way it is on Encyclopedia Dramatica, everyone gets the crack out of everybody because it's a parody site. See also Uncyclopedia.com and Urbandictionary.com

Kung hindi kayo natawa, or hindi niyo maintindihan ang ibig sabihin ng 'parody', you might as well not call yourselves true Filipinos. Filipinos have a sense of humour and wit. And if you are also not educated enough to know that Filipinos are not the only ones mocked by ED then please go back to your internet free days.

I seriously can't wait to have Black Dog in Manong Macadangdang's house this weekend! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Hehehehehehehehe! Suerteng suerte ako! Ang sarap! They did get one thing wrong though... Filipinas are HOT as f#ck! Just look at Angel Locsin or better yet my favorite: Valerie Concepcion! Dang I want her all over my face! Anyhow people we've got our own identity so there really isn't any point in making a big fuss: We're a light hearted people who enjoy poking fun at ourselves and everybody else. At least that's what I've always thought of us. So to all of you out Pinoys out there! Be proud of who you are and our mother land and quit trying to be Black!

You know what? Filipinos need to wake up and stop giving a sh*t about what people say and focus on making the country a better place instead...as a Filipino American I'm on the outside looking in, and I've seen poverty and crime ravage the capital city, my uncle murdered on my cousin's wedding day with the man who funded it all being an ex-governor, and Filipinos praise others for being famous and Filipino as opposed to being praised for their talent.

Oh yeah and is Alec Baldwin still banned from the Philippines for making a joke about us? On the other hand CRIMINALS GET TO MEET MICHAEL JACKSON'S CHOREOGRAPHERS CUZ THEY DID CHOREOGRAPHY FROM A 20 YEAR OLD MUSIC VIDEO? They're criminals...why the hell do they get granted such a once in a lifetime opportunity?

As Filipinos in the Philippines you guys need to fix the country ASAP...Also, as a supporter of Encyclopedia Dramatica, I ask you to stop feeling so butthurt.

In America, your average Filipino American teenager has never visited the homeland, is spoiled by their parents who made something of themselves, express their pride by making fun of their parents' accents while hanging a Filipino flag on their rearview mirror, and humiliate our race by being socially inept. I'm doing my part here by trying to open the eyes of my fellow Filipinos, please start doing the same back home. I hate talking to my cousins and hearing that they're receiving death threats for running for political office.

GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT and, also, please relinquish the title of Pedo Heaven to where it belongs: Thailand.

Even my country isn\'t safe from ED... No one\'s is... There\'s little to nothing anyone can do to stop it under the law, so may as well sit back, relax and learn to laugh at yourself (and others).

I think, in the end, this site shows just how over the top \"P.C.\" everyone is trying to be when they whine, moan and b*tch. Thing is, if you think about it, that over the top behavior is just as bad, and destructive, as anything on ED. No one wants to grow a thick skin anymore... instead, they want to be pandered to and molly-coddled, making sure that nothing offends their delicate sensibilities. They\'re searching for a Utopia online that, quite frankly, doesn\'t exist, nor will EVER exist.

Take it with a grain of salt. We cannot file a complaint everytime somebody says something that we do not like. We cannot keep telling our consulate and ambassadors to lodge a formal complaint like we did when AleC Baldwin made a joke about mail-order Filipino and Russian women. We got so hot and bothered we made ourselves a laughing stock. Nothing was heard from any Russian.

We should not be pikon, because we ourselves are fond of putting labels or "nicknames" to other nations and/or nationalities (Bombay, Chekwa, etc.)... in fact we are very fond of this. I remember that biscuit or cookies in Greece named "Filipina" (please I remember it correctly), na it even became a headline on primetime newscast na we became very furious towards it, at least that is not really something derogatory.

I agree with Dotdotdot: Read, laugh, move on.
