Winning six out of nine nominations, The Hurt Locker won Best Picture, Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow and Best Original Screenplay for Mark Boal at the recently concluded 82nd Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.

Bigelow, the first woman to win Best Director at the Oscars, said in her speech posted on the Oscars website, "There's no other way to describe this. This is a moment of a lifetime… I'd like to dedicate this to the women and men in the military who survive on a daily basis around the world. May they come home safe." The Hurt Locker also won Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for Crazy Heart, which also won Best Original Song for "The Weary Kind" sung by Bridges. Bridges said in between whoops of delight, "Thank you, mom and dad, for turning me on to such a groovy profession... You know, this is honoring them as much as it is me."

Two days after personally receiving her Razzie Award for Worst Actress in All About Steve, Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for The Blind Side at the Oscars. "Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down?" Mentioning her co-nominees in her speech, Bullock told Meryl Streep, "You know what I think of you and you're such a great kisser." (Bullock "planted a wet one" on Streep after they tied for Best Actress in the 15th Critics' Choice Awards.)

Best Supporting Actress Mo'Nique

Best Supporting Actress went to Mo'Nique for Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire, which also won Best Adapted Screenplay. Mo'Nique said, "I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics." Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor for Inglourious Basterds.

The other film with nine nominations, Avatar, won Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction (Rick Carter said in his acceptance speech, "Jim Cameron, this… this Oscar sees you.").

Ben Stiller presented Best Makeup as an Avatar in a suit, complete with the tail and Na'vi-like language (Avatar actually wasn't nominated). "I should've just worn my Spock ears because Star Trek was actually nominated and I own two pairs from the original series both signed by Leonard Nimoy. But that would've been too nerdy. This is much cooler," Stiller said. Best Makeup went to Star Trek.

Oscar hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin "singled out many of the assembled Oscar contenders for some light, deflationary ribbing, starting with each other," reports ABS-CBN News. One of the frequent butt of their jokes was their It's Complicated co-star and Best Actress nominee Meryl Streep. "Meryl Streep holds the record for most nominations as an actress, or as I like to think of it, most losses," Martin quipped.
