Stars in politics: Lucy Torres, Christopher de Leon proclaimed winners; Bong Revilla, Pacman lead polls

Published: May 11, 2010 - 4:00pm

The votes are in and some celebrities have already been proclaimed winners of the 2010 national elections, reports PEP.ph. The stars aligned for TV host Lucy Torres-Gomez, congresswoman of the fourth district of Leyte; veteran actor Christopher de Leon, board member of the fourth district of Batangas; actor and former Quezon City vice mayor Herbert Bautista, mayor of Quezon City; That's Entertainment alumnus Isko Moreno, vice mayor of Manila; actor Alfred Vargas and comedian Roderick Paulate, councilors of the second district of Quezon City; and actress Marjorie Barretto, councilor of Caloocan City, among others.

Meanwhile, other stars are leading the polls including action stars Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada and Lito Lapid who are all gunning for their second terms as senators. Eat Bulaga host and former senator Tito Sotto is in the running as well. Real-life action star, world boxing champ Manny Pacquiao has almost 30,000 votes more than Roy Chiongbian for the lone district of Sarangani province, according to a May 11 report from GMANews.tv.

"Star for All Seasons" Vilma Santos, who is running for her second term as Batangas governor, has a lead of more than 120,000 votes, reports Inquirer.net. Lani Mercado, actress and wife of Bong Revilla, is leading the congressional race in the second district of Cavite.

    @Tita Aida

    Indeed, I was being a bit sarcastic...

    I am wondering what committees Lani Mercado could join. Maybe Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources? I'm sure she is well-versed in that field. Civil Service and Professional Regulation? Or how about Higher and Technical Education? Surely she mentioned her thoughts on the matter in her campaign platform. Oh wait I don't think I heard her campaign platform...

    Bong Revilla topping the senate poll; Tito Sotto making a comeback; Lito Lapid over Riza Hontiveros for the final 2 slots - WTF??

    Mas nanaisin pa palang makita ng karamihan sila Panday, Tito at Leon Guerrero sa Senado kaysa kila Riza Hontiveros at Ka Satur Ocampo. At pagkatapos ano? Gagawa lang sila ng mga pelikula sa loob ng 6 na taon.. Yeah! B*S

    If Filipinos really want "CHANGE", it should not only stop with choosing the right president. Change would only take place if we change leaders down to the local positions. Now, how can we expect change if same old sh*&^t people are in position?!How ironic..we have a new president but look at the senators and also take a closer look at the governor, mayor and councilors we voted. We can only pray for a miracle to happen.

    With due respect, I can't recall any spectacular "legislative" record of Bong Revilla.

    "Senate Hearing" record (no pun intended Hayden Kho), yes; however, it was selective.

    If he was a champion of women's rights, where was Bong when Chavit's gf was physically abused?

    I am so happy that we are finally getting even more free entertainment from our stunningly appointed government.

    Thank you, Pilipinas. You make democracy look fantastic.

    Apparently millions of people thought we were voting for PBB. Good luck Cavite. I am sure Lani Mercado will have as spectacular of a legislative record as Bong Revilla.
