Netizens to Noynoy: Retain DOH Sec. Esperanza Cabral, she has "balls" to get job done

Esperanza Cabral on Probe Profiles

As of May 21, more than 200 netizens have signed a petition requesting president-apparent Noynoy Aquino to retain Department of Health Sec. Esperanza Cabral in his cabinet.   Spearheaded by performance artist and popular Manila guide, Carlos Celdran, the petition states, "We believe that continuity is necessary, especially when it comes to her progressive stance towards HIV/AIDS Prevention/Awareness and Reproductive Health."

Cabral has been called "immoral" and has even been asked to resign by Catholic bishops for her condom distribution program, yet she remains steadfast in her advocacy. "Of course, I am afraid of the Church. They are very powerful and they can sometimes be very vicious. I'm not exactly one who likes to live dangerously, but I'd rather live dangerously than do nothing," she told ANC's Dateline Philippines.

A known supporter of the Reproductive Health Bill and the first petition signatory, Celdran wrote, "Dear President Elect Noynoy. Do the right thing." Other signatories applauded Cabral's "diligence," "honesty" and "balls to do what needs to be done."

Aquino said he is willing to retain some of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Cabinet members who don't have a history of "irregularities or anomalies," as phrased by The Philippine Star. Cabral is rumored to be one of the current cabinet members that Aquino will retain.

I admire Cabral's to stick to her stand on RH issues even if it means earning the ire of the outdated and unrealistic stand of the Catholic church. I am for her retention.

Cool it lady! I'm a Mrs.Cabral fan, and I like what she is doing, particularly to the sanctimonious bishops. As for the herbalists, its about time itigil na nila ang racket nila. Teka, mi diperensiya ka bang magbasa? why the hostile stance?

@(pretending to be) DOHoutsider: if the "herbalists" have faith in their products, then there's no reason for them to worry. you seem to champion the cause of the "herbalists" and you have this seemingly deep-rooted angst against Cabral and what she does. hmmmm...have you even bothered to look at what the administrative order says? there's nothing in there that prohibit people from buying these products. it is there simply for the truth. what's wrong with people being informed about a product before they buy it? wouldn't you want that for yourself, too? Obviously, you don't. You'd rather want profits from shady deals. And please, this world is already full of obnoxious and loud people like you. No need to add more. So, scat!

    Mr./Ms. DOH Outsider:

You pretty much explained it. The order merely wants the general public to understand that certain herbal products CANNOT TREAT DISEASES and CANNOT BE USED AS A REPLACEMENT FOR MEDS. Putting the words "No approved therapeutic claims" in fine print that only ants can read is just as good as not having a warning at all. Put a big "HINDI ITO NAKAKAGAMOT" warning on the other hand better serves the interests of the public (which by the way spends BILLIONS on herbal products). So let's ask the herbal industry: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT?? Unless of course, some of them have something to hide.

And for them to use the freedom of speech defense? Please.. What a dumb and lame excuse. Their lawyer should go back to law school and take Constitutional Law again. They're in an industry that's MEANT TO BE REGULATED BY THE GOVERNMENT!! And that argument has no leg to stand on. They just plucked it from some obscure US Court decision. Bottomline: You're in an industry that is imbued with public interest so you should submit to government regulation.

THERE SHOULD BE TRUTH IN ADVERTISING!
Paki-elaborate nga please ng detalye nitong utos ni Mrs.Cabral, para ma clarify ang mga nagbabasa dito....

About the Gas & the laptop, okay, okay, You convince me...

Don't believe those who blast Sec. Cabral's decision to bring along a few trusted people from the DSWD to the DOH.

    1) It was well within Sec. Cabral's right to bring along her trusted and confidential staff. It's what you call in the exigency of the service. It's not as if she asked for the post at DOH. That was one of the very few concessions given to her for accepting such a sudden switch in her Cabinet posting.

    2) She brought along 10 people. Before that there were TWICE AS MANY EMPLOYEES in the Office. Back in the day, the job that one person could do was divided (quite absurdly) between two or three people. Those days are over. That's not corruption. That's being efficient. That's being practical. That's buckling down and getting the job done. Typical Cabral.

You want to nitpick about the gas of one vehicle and the laptop? How about the value of keeping a lean but mean staff who actually work, even beyond office hours when the need arises, instead of a bloated office where people play Farmville all day and then punch out at exactly 4PM everyday? Or the money the Office of the Secretary saved by being the only DOH office to not go on an outing this summer?

Clearly, these petty complaints pale in comparison to the good that Cabral has done in the DOH. These sourgrapes only wish that Duque would have brought them with him to CSC. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the CSC) Duque did not. So sorry na lang. Malay niyo, maibalik ang mga "good old days" nyo when Noynoy names a new Secretary. Don't worry, it's just a month away. Until then, let's all shut up, move on and get back to work.

@DOHinsider: Bakit di mo sila i-report sa ombudsman o kya sa civil service? Naku, pero dapat wag mong kalimutan na meron kang hard evidence talaga against sa kanila ha. Or else, katawa-tawa ka niyan. Chillax!

Many of the DOH employees do not like Cabral to be the DOH secretary. She has poor management skills and does not relate well to his subordinates. I hope that she'll be replaced by Aquino.

Yes, Cabral needs to stay. She is qualified, competent, and a cut above the rest of GMA Cabinet.

The choice of Cabral will send a very strong message to the Church. There is no such thing as a religious block vote.
